that cool linking internet whatsit. . . how?
It's clear that everyone (eg. Nathan) but me knows how to toss off a line like --
I already wrote about horses
in which the word horses is a full link to another section of the internet.
I've been blogging for years now and I still don't know how to do it. I always have to say
I already wrote about horses (really-long-full-link-to-the-bit-of-the-blog-where-I-wrote-about-horses.com).
and it's embarassing. Somebody help me, please. (I use wordpress, if that makes any difference.)

Two similar, but different url tags accomplish forum linking. For html coding like here at these forums just press the url button at the top of the post entry box. It'll put in an open tag and a close tag in this syntax: open tag; left bracket, U-R-L, right bracket: close tag; left bracket, forward slash, U-R-L, right bracket. After the open tag's url type an equal sign and two quote marks. Then type or copy and paste a link source address between the quote marks. Type or paste a link descriptor between the open tag's right bracket and the close tag's left bracket.
The only difference for Bulletin Board code, like blogspot uses, or wordpress, etc., is a less than glyph replaces a left bracket and a greater than glyph replaces a right bracket.
Thus; <url="url address">To this link.</url>

When you have a new post open on the editing screen, highlight the word you want to become a link. Then up in the formatting options bar you should see a button that looks like links of chain. Click that. OR you can type ALT + SHIFT + A It will do the same thing. It will bring up a little box that lets you put in a web address. The Link URL I think it is called. Put your web address in, set the Target As either to open up in the current window or open in new window (I usually set mine to open in new window so the clicker doesn't navigate away from my blog.)
Hit OK and Viola! Link created. Yell if you need any other instruction. I'm pretty handy with Wordpress and I can make screen shots when I get home.

Within this forum, you select the words you want to be the link, then click the URL button. So if you want to link to horses, select horses, press the URL button, then add = after the first url and paste in the link. In your box the link will look like:
<url=http://freshwaterorganics.com/horse3102 ... orses</url>
Only instead of using the < and > brackets it will be [ and ]
Elsewhere on the Internet (like on Blogger and Wordpress), you'll need to use html. The way to do that is through a somewhat similar process that looks like this (and in this case you do use these brackets):
<a href="http://freshwaterorganics.com/horse31024.jpg">horses</a>

Thank you very much (especially Sommer, who managed to give me the tiniest possible bit of necessary information in the simplest possible terms - just what a noob desires). I am now firmly on the road to being totally internet savvy (that's what all the cool kids like, right? RIGHT?)

This is great information. Clear and concise. I needed a refresher on links as well.
Thanks to all - especially Louise for asking.
