Between '84 and '94 centuries of dirt and soot were removed from the frescoes. If you zoom in to the corner to the immediate right (as the page opens), just above the level of the wall, you'll see a dark square. That's the one spot the restoration team didn't touch - so you can get an idea of what it looked like before.
