Agents by genre

Are there listings of agents by genre or do we have to scan a zillion agencies/agent sites compiling our own lists?
I ask because I write in several genres: historical, literary, memoir and what I call 'fiction lite' - contemporary, humorous, quirky-character-driven cops/robbers, goofy westerns, etc.
It's a pain in the a$$ try to match my current WIP with an agent.

I was thinking of starting a thread that would help querying authors trade info on agents (like Absolute Write Water Cooler), so maybe I'll just gauge the interest from this post.

Querytracker is fantastic. I love how it's laid out in a grid so you can see at a glance who takes e-queries, and you can make it show only those agents open to submissions also. One thing about the genre thing--it's not always accurate. Just in the last few days I've found several agents who's bio didn't list a genre I was looking for, but when I went to the agency site to read their bio there, they did accept the genre. So, never hurts to check out the agency too.

I love Agent Query. But I always double check the agent's website to make sure that I'm querying the right agent or if there is another agent in the same agency that might suit my needs better. Another tip: if you read in the genre that you write, check the acknowledgments section to see if they thank their agent. I've gotten a lot of leads this way.

I noticed poetry wasn't on there, are there any search engines for agents representing poetry?

I've always had the impression that while agents will represent Poets who have established themselves, the field of poetry isn't lucrative enough to justify an agent's time otherwise. I would love to hear that I'm wrong about that.

Yes you do need to pay. I am sure it is worth it though.
