How many of you write while tipsy?
How many of you write while tipsy?
Title says it all...
I find that the creative juices flow the fastest after a couple of glasses of wine (or two white russians, a beer, and a side of chicken masala).
Anyone else attempt to drink and type? I find that it lowers my standards and my inhibitions and makes me get stuff on paper.
EDITED BY NB: Let's constrain the discussion to legal writing lubricants. Thank you!

I write sober but I often revise while making supper and sipping wine. I think it oddly gives me more clarity and the work does improve.
Re: How many of you write while tipsy?
I like to have a drink or two when I'm writing an emotional scene. It seems to help me feel the love, anger, despair etc. when I'm a little more relaxed. But if I pass that blurred line from relaxed to blurred vision, I get way too destracted.
Re: How many of you write while tipsy?
I am partial to a little lubricant when I am writing. It blurs the edges between reality and my fictional world.

My attorney has advised me not to answer this question...

Alas, not I... booze just makes me snooze...
Re: How many of you write while tipsy?
I have. Mostly rubbish, although some decent ideas have been spawned. Melodies, as well.
Re: How many of you write while tipsy?
Since quitting drinking, my work has sailed.
Never thought it would work like that.
Was diagnosed with ADD as an adult, though. Dr. prescribed ritalin changed my creative life. Until then, I had started hundreds of ms, never finished one. Wrote my first novel and secured representation in nine months. (But then five months of revision ... before submitting to publishers.)

mostly sober when I write.
Re: How many of you write while tipsy?
I find that I make a lot more typos, but that the writing is less self-conscious and more natural sounding. However, when I edit I have to be dead sober. (Don't get me wrong though, I'm not writing drunk, just a little lubed up).

I think the danger of this is that it becomes a crutch, an "I need this to write". I think it's better to depend on yourself. Trust yourself. Write enough and those inhibitions will naturally fall away. That drinking slope can be slippery indeed...

Yep that would be my worry too. I mean after 2 drinks I am nodding off, next 2 and I am out looking for a night club (to dance the night away) ... so I would never get any writing done anyway LOL.Ink wrote:I think the danger of this is that it becomes a crutch, an "I need this to write".
