p.s. if you query Nathan, say 'hi' for me.
I already did. But let's just assume he said 'hi' back.

Heather - yes, I queried Nathan too. Haven't we all? It's like a rite of passage.

I didn't know you then, but if I had, I'd definitely said 'hi' from you!

So, I want to join this fantasy club - can readers join?

I'm sure you can be the exception, Mira.

Tea? Dios, I though we were on the same page here? Coffee, Mira. Coffee, coffee and more coffee. A little chocolate wouldn't go astray either :)

Okay, coffee would be great, too. I can do either, and often do. (Do you forgive me, Heather? Are we still friends?)

But definitely cookies. With chocolate in them. :)

Uh-oh. I...um...don't actually...eat chocolate or drink coffee (or any other caffeinated beverage). Does this mean I have to turn in my fantasy-writing kit? Can I at least keep the decoder ring?

Dios, I'll join you for tea. (I write fantasy too) So we'll have factions in the club- peaceful ones of course- those who drink tea and those who drink coffee.

I suppose I can. We fantasy folk have to stick together. I guess that means Margo can join, decaffeinated drinks and all. It's just lucky were so understanding...

I write fantasy, does that mean I get an automatic membership?

Ditto that question. Also, I'm good with coffee, chocolate, cookies, and all that stuff. In fact, you could say I'm very good with coffee.

lotrconfan, Claudie, welcome to the club!! :)

(...virtual snacks really aren't cutting it for me, how about you guys?)

Heather B wrote:What genre do you write in?

Is it the same as what you read?

I know writers are supposed to read widely outside of their genre but I have a hard time pulling myself away from fantasy. That said, a lot of published writers don't read their genre at all.

Personally, I like to know what's out there. It helps me sleep better at night.

I write YA novels. Even more typically most of my stories (even short stories) have that angst in there as well. My WIP waiting for revision might even be considered "edgy" given the topic but I guess I won't know until I read through everything. The next story I am planning is another one with a touchy subject and I actually love it even more.

I try to read in my genre as much as I can, but I write way more than I used to...so reading time is hard to come by. I did just finish The Hunger Games and Catching Fire though. At the moment I'm looking for books that cover really tough subjects for teens. I've found a couple more and will be reading them soon.

As far as sleeping better...usually I get depressed actually. Especially now since I'm about to start revising. Everything is better than my work. Hopefully I won't feel that way when I'm done though.

On a happier note: I can tell my next idea is better than the first one, which is lifting my spirits. I guess its true what they say. The more you write the better you'll get.

Wildheart, writing is supposed to make you happy. Now you're making me sad!
I'm sure your writing is 10 kinds of awesome so try not to lose too much sleep over it. And when in doubt, refer to Nathan's commandments.
