Confession time

Post by Terry Towery » December 21st, 2009, 9:02 pm

So do you write in your pajamas? Or are you one of those disciplined writers who get up and get dressed first?

Me? I write in my pajamas. ;)

I usually have to write in public places, but I totally should write in my pajamas in a coffee shop.

Well, I never wear pajamas, but rather than put that ugly image in your head, let me clarify that I write at night, before bed, at the end of my day. So by then I have changed to what I call loungewear. Sweats in winter, light flannel pants in summer.

You get the idea.

As my wife just reminded me, I actually get up, get dressed, go to the gym, come home and get back into my pajamas to write!

I hadn't actually given it much thought, but yes, it's very weird. I just like to be comfortable when writing.

I don't usually wear PJ's either. For me it is usually a tank top and sweats. But actually I do a great deal of my writing while I am in bed suffering from insomnia caused by my husbands incessant need to snore. :)

I do my editing in my underwear... well, at least last night I did.

I wear comfy 'grubbies' which sometimes double as PJs ;-)

AHAHAHAHA!!

Seriously though, jammies (or underpants) are definitely the way to go.

Of course. In fact, I'm wearing pajamas & writing as I type.

I might have written in my pajamas once or twice, but I usually stick to clothes - you know, the real deal, jeans, etc. I have issues with going through too much of the day without getting dressed. I feel like I can't really exert myself in any way when I'm in my pajamas.

OK, the issue above might have something to do with it, but I bet the real reason I'm dressed in day clothes when I write is that I write after school. I typically come home from school fully dressed...

Anyway, tonight I might end up in my pajamas. That is, if I keep procrastinating.

By the way, writing in your underwear? Priceless!

P.S. I do tend to take off my shoes when I write, especially if they're tennis shoes.

I like to be comfortable when I write. Lately though, I have to write in between a million other things, and if I have a few free minutes to write, I don't worry about what I'm wearing. That said, I'm definitely not one of those people who believe you must get up and get dressed/ready for the day before doing anything like writing. I don't really see the need to get dressed if I am writing first thing in the morning. If I am writing later in the day, then I am usually wearing something comfy.

The person who said they write in a coffee shop - it would be hysterical if you wrote in your PJ's at a coffee shop. When you are a famous author, it would be a great story. :)

Haha! Love. This. Question.

PJ's, for sure. But maybe I'm just lazy. I write until around 2-3am, then my toddler wakes up at around 10am, and I write on and off during the day - still in my pyjamas.

I get dressed at around 5pm so that when my husband comes home, it looks like I might have actually gone outside during the day ;)

PJ's of course! I love that "PJ's" are the resounding majority. It's hilarious and comforting all at once.
Ahhh...if only I could do this forever. Starting Grad school shortly and I don't believe the profs will appreciate me coming to class in my robe even if it means I'd get a better grade...
