Request from editor..include?

Post by LSimon » June 29th, 2010, 10:12 pm

At a conference an Editor asked for a full of my novel - which I will be sending out shortly. Should I include that fact in a query letter to agents?

I was in this position once before and I think I did mention in query letters that the ms was being considered by an editor. I don't really know if it was the right thing to do, but the advice I was getting at the time said that agents like to know where the ms has been "shopped" already when they consider taking on a new client. You also get into the issue of exclusivity. If its being considered by an editor then the agent needs to know they aren't the only one looking at your ms when they ask for a full.

I'm hoping someone else will chime in on this, though, as I really don't know what the best answer is.

I think it's good to mention when an agent requests a partial/full. I actually specifically asked if it has been/is being considered by editors because it's something I want to know in advance.
