Creating an author web site

Another vote for iWeb from me. Even a technical idiot like myself (you know the sort, when I worked in an office I would have the IT dept on speed dial) managed to set up a very decent website. No need for knowing java or any of that technical stuff.

Our provider is GoDaddy and we just have a free site with some banners on it so we don't have to pay monthly fees (we're poor scuba diving instructors). We bought our domain name. We have a website for our other business and I am hijacking one page for myself but eventually I might buy my own domain name. I send agents to my page here so if they want to know about me or see a picture they can. And who knows, if they don't want to represent my book they might look at the rest of the site and let me teach them to scuba dive instead.

My question is in regard to my website, TammySetzerDenton.com, where I have posted an excerpt of my novel, MAN OF THE HOUSE,in order to start building a platform. By publishing this excerpt on a personal website, am I breaking any rules that might sabotage future publication?

I just made a site for my unpublished book, Kings & Queens, with Wix. It's a bottom-barrel host, barely offers anything (the stats are from Google Analytics, it doesn't have email capabilities and it doesn't seem like you can self-host a blog if you're on Wodpress), but the flash site builder is wicked easy to use and you can publish your finished site for FREE. Mine is up free, so that's why the little wix icons are on there. Granted, you won't get stats on a free page, but still, you can put one up until you want to upgrade or go with another host. I like my design so much, that I think I'll stay with them and upgrade later. I don't even have an agent yet.

What had me try out Wix was the templates and flash capabilities. The designs weren't all stock-looking like on so many other sites. I didn't even end up using a template but got inspired by two of their designs.

I don't have my trailer up yet, but you can check out my site. It's a pretty good example of all the flash features, the photo gallery and mini-pages.

I did my website, www.TammySetzerDenton.com, through VistaPrint. I have no web building skills, but it was fairly simple and the cost seems fair. I can update as often as I like and it contains a site-tracking feature. I also matched the website to business cards I had made up to promote my novel, MAN OF THE HOUSE. I didn't choose the most expensive site nor the cheapest. So far, I'm very happy with their services.
