Thought this would provide food for thought here. Woman suffering from early onset Alzheimers writes a book. Can't get an agent or publisher interested. Self-publishes. Success. Agent comes along, sells it to Simon & Schuster. Etc Etc Blah Blah.
True story, apparently.
I'm interested in what efforts she made to find an agent, etc

Re: How Lisa Genova uses social media to get published
Very interesting... I think this goes to show that it's not necessarily getting the "lucky break" that will bring you success, but good old-fashioned hard work. She didn't just sit on her laurels and wait for things to take off for her, and she didn't give up. She worked hard and used her platform as a way to reach out to those she thought would be most in touch with her work.

I've been a snood with the self-publishing thing when it gets brought up on the forums, but this one was nice. A needle in the haystack, but nice. Good for her!
