Awesome interview and great idea for a series! I think it's so nice that they are taking the time to do that! :)

Okay, that was the quickest kickback ever. My query letter was revised by you guys AND query shark, and my story is
fantasy which is what Sara said she wanted, but BAM, no thanks. I'm starting to suspect something is amiss. I'm querying agents who specifically cite they want fantasy and no one's interested in even a partial. (*curls up in the fetal position and starts humming Sesame Street to herself*)

If it's any consolation, NLA is a really tough agency to get any kind of request from (I've queried twice, polite form rejections both times). Their rejection rate is something crazy-spectacular like 99.5%.

I'll try to go check out your query here on the forums, though, see if I have any advice beyond what the others have said...

It certainly sounds like a hard lot to win over. Nice interview, nonetheless.

Christi,

Don’t feel too badly. It is so incredibly hard to get published or to get an agent these days, lots of people with really good books receive rejections. I belong to a writers’ group in which a number of literary writers have received such glowing praise of their work in rejection letters, they had to read the rejection line twice to realize that it was indeed a rejection letter rather than an acceptance.
