Always a tricky art . . . nudging an agent who is reading your manuscript. Here's my question: Should I notify an agent if I receive other requests for the full manuscript?

We all know that it's imperative to notify if you receive an offer of representation. This question is a bit different. It's basically, "Hey, I received (#) full requests, and out of respect for your time, wanted to let you know."

I think there are two risks: (1) Rushing things, (2) Creating a competitive situation in which agents might make quick decisions . . . and let's face it, the quick decision is usually "no thanks."

Opinions, please?

Generally speaking, no. Getting a full request is awesome!, but it doesn't actually promise anything other than that they'll look at it. So, just as with queries, there's no need to notify agents A-C that D & E are looking at it, too; it's assumed that you're getting your MS in front of as many eyes as you can. Notification is only appropriate if there's an actual offer on the table.
