My first partial request

Post by bcomet » May 10th, 2010, 2:29 pm

Dear Forum Friends,
I just got my first request for a partial.
I am so moved that I am crying.
I feel very grateful to all of you here and to Nathan for this forum.
It is a miraculous source of camaraderie and help.
I feel like when any of us moves forward, that we all do.
Your support along this journey makes me very grateful.
Thank you.
I know a partial is just a tiny step. But it's a first forward for me from a top agency.

Thank you Serz, Ink, Ermo!!

This is the second novel that I've tried shopping. The first one is longish and has three protagonists and writing the query letter was very difficult. Comments I have had on that project have been very positive overall, but that it is longish for a first project. I have sent queries on that with little response and a lot of humbling in the process.

So, in the middle of another BIG project, I decided to take a break from it and write a shorter, quicker project, one with one protagonist and try to shop this one first. (It was also MUCH easier to write a query letter for.)

Recent posts (here) about query letters, synopsis writing, and theme helped. The great contest Nathan–and the generous writers who entered the science experiment–held on the blog last week also greatly inspired my query and synopsis writing for this novel. So much thanks to this place all around!

I have just now started sending queries for this novel. Today's response back from a Saturday query is from the first batch of queries sent last week.

And again, it's a tiny opening. But a first for me. And my heart is grateful for this amazing feeling of this tiny-big moment in my journey.
