Staddicts

Post by dementedtinkerbell » February 19th, 2010, 10:21 am

I know now, that I am not the only person addicted to stationary. This is a strange affliction whereby a budding author will naturally gravitate towards the nearest stationary store in the immediate vicinity and be lost within the displays, sometimes for years.

You, or someone you know, may be a Staddict if you can say yes to the following:

-You know where all the stationary is kept in the supermarket
-You know where the nearest store is, and its opening times
-If you get to the store without people noticing, you will emerge hours later with at least two bags and a goofy grin
-Your writing area has at least 5 unused notebooks
-You have more than one pencil case, filled with all sorts of pens and still need a new one
-You have a wall dedicated to all things Post-It
-Said Post-It's are colour co-ordinated, in separate sections, depending on which character you are writing about at the time.
-You get upset if you find a yellow Post-It in the area for pink ones
-If your local stationary store has a sale, they ring you at home at least a week in advance to let you know.
-You are the stationary store's best advertiser
-You have an account with the stationary store
-If people touch your stationary without permission, you growl and/or lunge at them.
-When you put extra staples on every page just for the sheer joy of it...
-I just bought two reams of paper at Ace Hardware. ( I think this should be a motto for Staddicts and accompanied by a goofy grin)
-You keep finding random pens in your bag for no apparent reason, and then realise you put them all there in case there was an *emergency*(perhaps of an apocalyptic nature) and a lot of people needed stationary in a hurry

This list is not comprehensive and if you think that something should be added, just post here and I'll get it up on the list.

All that said, welcome Staddicts!

I just bought two reams of paper at Ace Hardware. I live in a small, small town.

I have one, but I think it may be restricted to just me...

Anyone?

I knew you'd be in with me Jaime, and it's good to know that we aren't the only ones :D

I'll add those new ones by Lorelei, Ink and Mia to the list of Staddict traits now :D

I'm headed back to Ace Hardware this morning for another ream. I think a writer must know every paper source within a fifty-mile radius.

I also dream of a time when a printer company makes a universal ink cartridge.

Ooh, universal cartridges! That would be brilliant but I don't think they will y'know. They like their profits a little too much :(

I'm lucky that a store near me stocks own brand cartridges at half the price of the 'official' ones so I stock up on them when I have the money.

OMG--finally a name for my affliction!! I have all these cool notebooks lying around--and I keep buying more...problem is I have notes in all of them and now I'm confused. I love post-its in strange shapes and bright colors. I love buying those little planners that I'm too disorganized to bring with me. I also love buying index cards in different colors so I can color code the scenes in my novel. Yes, I'm definitely a staddict. As addictions go, though, it's not too bad....just me to a Staples and I'll be okay.

Welcome fellow Staddict! Do not despair any longer, we are here for you! Not to stop you, no, we will egg you on mercilessly and possibly/probably join you in the aisles. We will also give you advice about stationary you didn't even know was awesome but will now, inexplicably, want to test out as soon as you can!

I was addicted to stationary once, but then I moved. Now I just hang out at stationery stores. ;-)

*sigh*

After a rough week I consoled myself with two adorable new A6 pads, one A4 Jotta pad, some Post-Its and a new parker pen. Most women who want retail therapy will buy clothes, shoes or a handbag but not me, I just want stationary. If I ever get a new man I'll be easy to please I suppose, all he'll need to do is show me a shiny new writing pad and I'll be happy.

Seamus - I bet you really come out with something whenever you go in! ;)

So, for me it's not post-it's, but bound notebooks (college ruled) and red gel pens. Can you help me too? ;-)
