For all you Austen Fans - a Vlog series

Post by Shipple » December 20th, 2012, 8:39 am

I debated putting this in All Things Books vs. All Things Procrastination, but since I spent the last few days religiously watching these I went with Procrastination.

There is an awesome vlog out there called The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. It's pretty popular, so some of you may already know (and love) this series, but I wanted to make sure the rest heard about it. It is a video diary adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. (Link here: https://www.youtube.com/user/LizzieBennet/videos?view=0).

I actually just wrote a post about this on my own blog b/c it's a pretty amazing concept, it's really well done (professional actors and everything), and it's origins lie partly with Hank Green, brother of John Green, who, together, have a pretty overwhelmingly successful online presence/vlog.

For this project, they even created a website (http://www.lizziebennet.com/) that has all sorts of really interactive extras (that must have been ridiculously time consuming). For example, each character has their own twitter account AS that character (I'm guessing the writer of the show writes the tweets, but not sure). From the extras, one of my favorites were the tweets between Darcy, Bing Lee, and Caroline (They made Bingley into Bing Lee, a rich medical student).

Anyway, wanted to get the word out to any Austen fans who haven't heard about this yet.

Any Bransforumers out there have other cool examples of modernized classics or ways to have an awesome online presence?

Also, this series is really interesting b/c it has actually turned Lydia into a very likable, understandable character (although some people will find her to be super annoying).

So, in that way, it's actually different (and better??) than the book (although perhaps that was purposeful in the book so you don't feel too bad when Lydia gets the short end of the stick of life).
