Mira wrote:Top ten movies I am not embarrassed to admit (in no particular order)

1. Juno (the writing, it's the writing)
2. A Beautiful Mind
3. Schindler's List (thank you, Spielburg)
4. To Kill a Mockingbird
5. !2 Angry Men
6. The 6th Sense
7. Waitress
8. Sideways
9. Wizard of Oz
10. Some Like it Hot

Runners up: The Birdcage (so funny), Star Wars, The first Harry Potter, Michael Clayton, Big Chill, Akeelah and the Bee, Shall We Dance (Japanese version), Mr. Smith goes to Washington, National Velvet (the original), The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Fiddler on the Roof, Bee Season (flawed, but good), Young Frankenstein, Howl's moving castle, Spirited Away and Shawshank Redemption (haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure it will be on this list.)

Top 10 Movies I don't usually admit:

1. Beauty and the Beast
2. The Little Mermaid
3. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (with Gene Wilder)
4. Scrooge, the Musical (Albert Finney)
5. Mary Poppins
6. Spiderman 2
7. The Parent Trap (either one)
8. Wedding Crashers
9. Ghostbusters
10. The Devil wears Prada

And Raiders of the lost Ark. And Legally Blond. And I'd never admit this to anyone except you guys, but I love Pretty Woman. Yes, it's totally sexist and ridiculous, but it's so fun.

Wow! You and I seriously need to hang out. Some of my favorites are on both of your lists!
In no particular order:
1. Some Like it Hot
2. Lord of the Rings (all 3)
3. Star Trek 4 (the one with the whales)
4. Star Trek - First Contact
5. Schindler's List
6. Ghostbusters (it's the favorite for watching with my boys)
7. Wizard of Oz
8. Snow Cake (Alan Rickman)
9. Mamma Mia (don't judge me)
10. Scrooge (Albert Finney) - My Fair Lady (Audrey Hepburn) - - It's a tossup with these two. I love them both!
11. Blithe Spirit (Rex Harrison)
12. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Can't top Gene Wilder's performance)

OK, so I couldn't stick to only ten. I love movies. And musicals! ;)

Oh, wow, I didn't see this! I am so into a movie night with you! I LOVE musicals. :D And I never thought I'd meet another person who likes the Finney version of Scrooge!

Making a note of Blithe Spirit since I've never seen that one. :)

Count another in here. I grew up watching this movie every Thanksgiving night - it's the offical kick-off of the Christmas season in my family. I absolutely have to watch this movie first every year. It's a requirement.

Let's see...I don't like to sit and watch movies, per se, but when I find a movie I like I watch it all the time. I have most of them memorized (I have a crazy weird memory where I can quote movie lines word for word, inflection and all, after a single watch. Don't ask.) So, in no particular order:

Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, the original Star Wars - of course
The new Star Trek - but also shout out for The Wrath of Khan (#2) and The Undiscovered Country (#6)
Ocean's Eleven
The Italian Job
Tangled (or just about any Disney movie, really. I love 'em.)
The Princess Bride
Spaceballs and Robin Hood, Men in Tights (yay, Mel Brooks!)
How to Train Your Dragon
The 10th Kingdom (it was an ABC miniseries - go check it out, seriously. 7 1/2 hours of awesome.)
Sweet Home Alabama
Alex & Emma
Victor, Victoria (Some Like it Hot, too - same vein)
TRON

Oh, and I love the new Avengers movie. Seriously awesome stuff. That one is my new obsession.

I can't choose A favorite movie. These are all my favorites, depending on my mood:

1776 (usually the answer I provide for a "favorite" movie)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Casablanca
The Thin Man
The Godfather
Willow
The Lord of the Rings
Beauty and the Beast
Toy Story (all of 'em)
Spirited Away
Howl's Moving Castle
Meet the Parents
Cranford (Okay, so it's a miniseries, but I'm still counting it because it's wonderful)
Chushingura (the 1941 version)
Departures

Such great lists of movies! Here are some of my favorites (in no particular order):

Gone With the Wind (love me some southern drama and who wouldn't want Scarlet's dress made from curtains! [hahaha])
Fried Green Tomatoes ("Face it lady, I'm older and have more insurance!")
Bolt (yes, the Disney movie - but I couldn't ask for some better quotes...from a hamster!)
Mamma Mia! (I want to be that mom who sings at her daughter's wedding with her friends - of course I need to have a daughter first)
Labyrinth (Jim Henson people)
The Princess Bride (Who didn't have a crush on Wesley when they were 15?)
Beaches (I guess I like Bette Midler)
Les Miserables (but...ONLY the 20th anniversary edition...oh Marius, how I swoon for thee...will you please come sing for me?)

I'm such a girl - hahaha!

I love love love Kathy Bates! I think I have watched just about everything she's ever done (at least in movies). One of my favorites she did about 5 or 6 years ago now, is a little gem called UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. It wasn't very widely publicized so it's no surprise if you've never heard of it. But it has everything. Makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes you swoon, and makes you cheer for the underdog. I just love it! (Guess I should have put it on my list!) ;)

The Boondock Saints ranks number 1, 2, 3 and 4 on my list. (Not the sequel. Ew.)
Fried Green Tomatoes
Pretty Woman
Adventureland
Breakfast Club
Stepbrothers
Star Wars IV, V, VI
Whole Nine Yards
Shawshank Redemption
I'm sure there are more...
