I might have mentioned my obsession with drawing maps before ...

Most people don't consider inventing languages is art (though I'd strongly disagree). But there's no arguing that typography is artistic, and when I'm not wasting my time on maps and conlangs, I'll waste time on inventing fonts for my conlangs:

Hey Rik,

I totally get the obsession with maps. I minored in geography in college, and the cartography classes I had to take were some of my favorites. I had an old-school teacher who made us draw maps by hand with very fancy pens. Then he'd grade the maps by looking at the lines we'd drawn with a magnifying glass to make sure they didn't overshoot where they connected together. It was maddening, but I loved the challenge. I still spend way too much time on google maps.

Love the language stuff, too. Awesome.

I had to look up the phrase "Terra Incognito" the other day.
I dug the maps in he Tolkien books and felt they added to story in a big way.

I have some cover tunes on Google.

Rik. That is.. oh my.. A part of me died from the sheer awesomeness of the typography. Where do you learn that? Is it something you picked up by yourself or... ? I would be so excited to learn to do something cool like that! :D

Really. Wow. I shall wow you for a long time now.

Rik - that is amazing. Wow.

Well, what Claudie said - wow.

Steppe - I can't get the links to work at work, so I'll try them later.

Sommer, this really is a terrific thread. :)

As I've posted many times before, I sew and create costumes for BJDs.

I also like to do their faces on some of them. I'm not that great, yet. I just redid Asher's over the weekend when my over zealous cleaning wiped off his cheek.

I also made his coat. :3 (Along with the other clothing, but I love his coat the bestest.)

And this is one I haven't put on DA yet, it's for the second book, when Mikael goes to Purgatory with Serenius. XD That's Mikael.

I love sewing. It's like taking a 2D image in your head and making it a 3D cuddly model. Though Mikael isn't that cuddly. XD

While I was cut away from all my WIP documents because of some computer tech difficulties on my desktop computer, I've created two high-resolution test picture for my science fiction WIP, Nightfall. Plus I also promised to few people in the beginning that I'm going to show something new about that world... so here are some new arts from NF.

The first picture is an Art Deco clock, where I actually tested am I capable to do any Art Deco stuff.

And the second is my favorite ship design, the Grace Ainsley Sharrow's test in an Art Deco environment (Art Deco poster).

I love the futuristic-art-deco. Especially the clock. :3

The clock is not my design. I used a picture, a role model when I recreated and made the entire clock in 3D (I love this clock too. That's why I made this clock to my test subject.). But there are few differences as I've changed few things on my model. Here is the original one, the role model of that clock (I used this picture). Not the same, but similar to my one.

And one more Art Deco style art and hover train design what I created for my Nightfall... but I also created this one for fun as I'm an avid fan of Poirot. :)

I like to think of myself as a bit of a photographer, too. I'm also a traditional artist (charcoal, pastels, etc) but sadly, I don't delve into those mediums too much lately. But here is a link to some pics and a few pieces of mine.

Great idea, Sommer!

To start the new year with some work, I created two new arts for my beloved WIP (The first one is a brand new one, and the second is a revised edition of an old draw.). I hope you're going to like it. :)

That's a nice cake. And I believe it's also artistic and not just crafty. :)
