Poison: Bourbon or Whisky?

Post by steve » July 6th, 2010, 9:17 pm

I'm a bourbon man myself; Jim Beam on rocks, and for special occasions Evan Williams.

What's your poison?

Um, I don't get it. You can't like both?

If I have to choose, I choose Whisky. I don't drink either, but Whisky has a romantic sound to it.

"Give me a Whisky on the rocks and make it fast, Mister. Make it a double. Hell, make it a triple. Then add another shot. It's a hard knock life, and me and my Whiskey got an appointment with Destiny."

Yeah. Whiskey it is.

Ah, I see.

Thanks for clearing that up. Makes complete sense.

Neither! In Ireland, we drink real whiskey, with the 'e'.

Ugh, it's rare that I disagree with Nathan but bourbon is disgusting! Maybe it was that empty preserves jar my sister filled with Ten High stolen from dad's liquor cabinet when I was young but I can't take the burn. Or was it the (lack of) quality of that particular mash?

I prefer a good old Irish Whiskey like Jameson's or Bushmill's or a Single Malt Scotch like Glenfiddich or MacAllan, though if I must drink bourbon I will take Knob Creek.

There is only one way to drink any of these liquors: neat, in a highball, at room temperature. Anything else is a waste of money. I prefer about two fingers, sipping slow to make a single glass last the night with a dark beer chaser but as long as you pour it neat you'll be okay.

BTW Steve, you're effing hilarious. Do you have a blog?

Don't you mean "the water of life?"

My vote. Whiskey (with or without the e). Favorite brand. Jameson's.

Once in a blue moon I drink Bailey's Irish Cream. The good stuff in it is Irish whiskey.

Mostly, though:
Water, purified or bottled.
Coffee, black.

Since I am now on Team Whisky, I must take my mission seriously. Steve helped me understand exactly why I must choose one or the other. I accept those compelling reasons. I also made the natural assumption that those who drink Bourbon are now my mortal enemies.

(Which does make Nathan my mortal enemy, but I figure if I become his client, we'll just 'talk it out.' )

In the meantime, I am deeply committed to promoting the beautiful goodness of Whisky and ridding the world of the dark evil that is Bourbon. I'm starting with my mother. I called her and explained that she must always choose Whisky and never, ever, ever choose Bourbon, or we would have to be mortal enemies. She seemed abit confused about the whole thing, so Steve, if you don't mind, I referred her to you for a further explanation.

I'm off. There are hours left in the dark night, and no doubt Boubon drinkers are spreading their Bourbon agenda. I must stop them!

Whiskey without a doubt.

I've always found Bourbon to be too thick and sweet for my tastes.

But after a few whiskeys I can stomach almost anything.
