That's not the point. The point is that the consumer would be more likely to purchase both Pratchett's book and Frednewauthor's book, even if Frednewauthor's book was at $2.99 as compared to $9.99. Pratchett's fans, and the likes, are going to buy his books no matter what. So publishers could price his e-books starting at whatever or cement them at whatever. But then the publisher could take Frednewauthor's book and do a graduated pricing scale so that it sells more in volume at various prices, which brings in more sales and, hypothetically, more money from Frednewauthor's book. The big name still brings in the money, and the lesser known author sells more books at various prices, which in turn creates more profit. Overall, it's a win-win.

Another quick question. Is it possible to set the release date for the uploaded works at Amazon, Smashwords, etc, etc... (I know it's possible to set the price. I'd like to do the same with the release date.).
