Lucky bastard.... I want a Kindle so bad.
Re: What are you reading now?
Speaking of bloated, I'm starting Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke on recommendation. Is it possible it deserves all the high profile accolades it's received and not one word is wasted? Damn thing would kill someone if it fell on them from a not-so-great height.Terry Towery wrote:If anyone has ever wondered why editing is so important, read this version of the novel. Way too bloated.

All Roads Lead Me Back to You by Kennedy Foster. So wonderful.

Right now I'm reading Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann. If you want to learn how to write clean, vivid, intelligent prose, he's one to study. Loved this description: Sad-jeaned whores. Perfect capture.

FROM WHERE I WAS STANDING by Chris Rowland. Have yet to begin it, but I imagine it'll be very good. It's a memoir of the Heysel tragedy, which oft gets overlooked in response to Hillsborough, though both were terrible, terrible affairs that really should never have happened.

Finished reading science fiction novel, GENESIS by Bernard Beckett. Wow, what an incredible ending. I'm now going to read NEVER LET ME GO by Kazuo Ishiguro - I've been meaning to read this for a long time.

Re: What are you reading now?
Finished two books yesterday --
-- SANDSTORM by James Rollins. Quite an adventurous thriller.
-- UNWORTHY by Kirsten Beyer. This is a Star Trek novel. Yes, I'm a Trekkie. It was absolutely fascinating, though! Star Trek books are far better than most people think they are.
And today I will be starting --
-- THE DIGITAL PLAGUE by Jeff Somers. This the sequel to THE ELECTRIC CHURCH, which I think I posted about a few pages ago. It'll be a dark sci-fi noir book.

Just finished Straub's A Dark Matter. Brilliantly done, and I loved the sorta literary horror bent. Next up? If On A Winter's Night A Traveler.

Re: What are you reading now?
I've just finishing up Xenocide by the lovely Orson Scott Card and about to start on Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsey.
Re: What are you reading now?
I've just started reading KIM, by Rudyard Kipling - a book I've been meaning to read for the past 30 years. After that, I'm going to read Conrad's HEART OF DARKNESS and other stories - again, a book I've been keen to read for ages. Once those two are out of the way I can get back into my comfort zone - good, solid SF/F stuff.
