Dragonlance

I just finally got around to starting the Dragonlance series. I read the first trilogy and liked it - some issues that are common in all early fantasies, but overall it was a good story. The second was okay, but I really don't like Raistlin. Read the short stories about the children, and now I'm in Dragons of Summer Flame.
This book is a brick. Almost 600 pages. I don't have a problem with doorstoppers, as long as they need to be that long. I don't think this one needed to be this long!! There's so much they could have cut, and it would have been much better at around 400 pages.
Anyways, I'm on page 374 out of 586. My question is this: is this book even worth it? I hate quitting books, especially series like this, but seriously! I'm slogging through this thing, hoping it'll pick up. It does for a while, but then I just drag my feet and wish it was over already. The next is even longer and I'm hoping against hope that it'll pick up, but I just can't see that it will.
Has anyone read the Dragonlance books, loved 'em, or hated 'em? I'd like to hear others' opinions about these books and know if slogging through the older ones is worth it to get to the new ones.
