Am I the only one that loves Edgar Rice Burroughs books?
I know that most of them couldn't pass a semi-serious scientific examination. Most of them have plot holes. Most of them have 2D, archetypical, plain characters (specially the main characters). But even so, every time I start reading some of them (thanks God for the Gutenberg Project and the Kindle), I'm hooked from the first paragraph on.
Any other Burroughs fans out there?

You know, I'm going to be honest. I've never read one. I have to say, I tried Kipling, and couldn't hack it. Is Borroughs better? He wrote Tarzan, right?

Right, Tarzan is his most popular work. He also wrote countless other, grouped by "saga": Pellucidar, Barsoon (Mars), Caspak ... You have may of them in Gutenberg, here: http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/authors/b#a48.Mira wrote:You know, I'm going to be honest. I've never read one. Try "The lost continent". Is a somewhat sci-fi novella about a world where Europe has been forgotten by the world after the WWI. I always like post-apocalyptic tales, and this is quite like that. That said, don't expect something very literary or deep: it's pulp, fun and fast.
By the way, the only thing by Kipling that I've read is "The man that would be king", and liked it. I've got "Indian tales" and "The book of the jungle" on the pile of to-read books; we'll see how they fare.

Yeah, I don't know why Kipling didn't do it for me. I found his style rather thick and unintersting. But lots of people think he's great.
I'll check out The Lost Continent - I like Sci Fi and I definitely like fast and fun, so sounds good. :)

Re: Edgar Rice Burroughs
LOVE the John Carter/Mars books! I spent a couple years collecting the stupid things, since they were all out of print. Tarzan and his others didn't do as much for me, but man, Barsoom was a lot of fun.
