I am SO happy you guys are trying Leviathan out! Seriously, my favorite thing in the world is recommending great books and actually turning people onto them. :-)

Please let me know what you think of it!

If I understand correctly, the hardcover books are indeed printed on special paper--heavier than the stock commonly used today. Like the liberal use of illustrations and the lovely cover, the heavier paper was part of the retro feel (specifically, how books at the time of the story were printed) Scott wanted for the project.

I can't help wondering what it will take as an author to convince a publisher to go with heavy stock like that and give a book a more substantial physical presence. Or, better put, is there any way to get a publisher to put out a high quality project like Scott's trilogy before you have a track record like his?

@Sommer I am a HUGE Westerfeld fangirl. Ever since Uglies, and then Leviathan! So awesome. And now Behemoth!! I'm halfway through, only because I waited to buy it when Westerfeld swung through Chicago on his tour!!!! He's an amazing speaker in addition to a fantabulous author, and I got him to sign everything including my Nook (which I have Leviathan as an e-book on). He was so COOL! (holy cats, I really am fangirling).

Next Week on my blog (Ink Spells) I'm having a Steampunk week, and a giveaway ... where I will be giving away a signed copy of Behemoth!! (along with other steampunk goodies). So check on 10/31 when I launch the week. :)

I checked out your blog, very cool!!! I love the contest and I entered. I would love to have a signed copy of Behemoth!

I love Scott Westerfeld. I love the Uglies series and I have a couple of his other books too but haven't read them yet.

Thanks for stopping by Sommer! And for everyone else: I also talk about the Westerfeld signing I attended. Upshot: He's even cooler in person.
