And what do you, John, the Internet Reader, give me in return? Oh, you may leave one or two comments on my webpage per week; you may “like” me on Facebook (or do you really only “pity” me? There’s an idea for ya: a “pity” button on Facebook);
Last week, the Red Room website for Writers, where I maintain a small, quiet presence, asked its members to contribute our thoughts on the troubling issue of "Writing for Free" something that many of us in cyberspace know too much about. I contributed the following serio-comic rant: http://tbdeluxe.blogspot.com/2011/05/fo ... -room.html

Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks!

Today I cover the news that everyone in the UK is talking about: Ed Victor, one of the leading UK agents, has just launched his own publishing company.

What makes this particularly newsworthy is that he won't just be publishing his authors' backlists, he will be looking for the stars of the future.

I analyse the author/publisher split he is proposing, and find it wanting. I cast a critical eye on some of the other agent/author hybrids out there, and find some their e-books to have very poor production levels.

I conclude with an examination of the conflict of interest that an agent becoming a publisher creates.

Maximizing your "non-magical" characters.

All you fellow fantasy writers, don't just let your normal human characters fade into the background. Give them some pizazz and chances are your talented MCs will stand out more, too.
