I posted a teaser from something new I'm working on. And when I mean new, I'm only a few paragraphs in. :-P The password (to all my teasers) is teasertuesday.

I found my old diary from when I was 10-13 and posted some of the entries I had written. My writing started young, although it seemed my skills might have developed at a later age!

Come on over to my blog and lurk a little!

I've just blogged about what we know about readers connecting with writing from what psycholinguistics & neuroscience research has told us.

I swear it doesn't get technical - I promise :)

I put up a new one this morning - not really writing relating, but inspirational-ish...kind of.

Unless the author is a relative or close friend, I don't buy self-published fiction. For non-fiction, I would have to really want that topic.

I sure do. In fact my blog is only 3 days old and so far I have 4 posts ... so that's more than one a day so far, but of course it is Friday. It's a blog about Querying (yes I capitalized that on purpose).

I am a novice writer who has written his first novel and I queried for about six months last year before I learned my lesson. At first I was pretty bad at it, horrible even. Then I finally realized that as much as I didn't want to I had to take the query process as seriously as I'd taken the writing process. Or at least if I ever wanted to get published I did. So I started to research it, learned a lot and finally got some agents to request fulls or partials. Of the 3 who did they each said they like the voice and wanted to see more - provided I could revise - drastically. Apparently the writing is pretty good but the manuscript is about 3 times longer than the longest debut novel these days so I have my work cut out for me. I'm making good progress so far.

In the meantime I've decided to create this blog with a really annoying name: The Quintessentially Questionable Query Experiment. I think it fits because it is as irritating and silly as the query process seems sometimes, though I realize it is necessary - publishing is a business, after all. I'm going to try to post 100 REAL queries that I have written and their REAL responses (personal agent info REDACTED, of course) by the end of this year. I'm starting with the worst, most embarrassing ones, and then eventually will move on towards queries I can live with; then finally some that found success. Think of it as Julie & Julia for the confused, frustrated but persevering novice writer; hopefully there will be a lesson for someone in it somewhere (I've already learned mine, at least part way, but maybe someone out there will read this first). It is embarrassing, humbling and sometimes infuriating going back over these old queries, but you have to have a thick skin for this kind of thing so I am trying to develop one.

Anyway enough about me. You can find out more at the blog if you are interested, and if you're not - believe me I understand. So please visit, read, comment, link back, follow and all that good stuff when you have a moment. I will be sure to do the same for other's writing related blogs.

Oh and thanks a million Mr. Bransford for your blog. It is the most informative yet fun agent blog I've found thus far. Your attitude and optimism are truly inspiring.

No I have not queried him yet, luckily I didn't find out about his existence until recently.

I didn't realize there was a place on Nathan's blog to plug our own blogs until he made a reference to self-promotion in the comments thread of his regular blog. Mea culpa. I got too excited because I wanted to chime in on the "Lying Game" as it related to story-telling...

Anyhow, my Squashed Gecko blog is more about screenwriting and movies as it relates to careers and real life occupations. I do it for site that ties into a local TV show I produce in Hawaii called Career Changers TV (www.CareerChangers.tv). But much of it pertains to writing and choosing creative pursuits as a life goal... and failing at it. I've optioned a couple of feature specs, come close to getting deals, yada-yada, and I share some of those stories too.

Here's the link to the latest post Professional Liars, which is about THE INVENTION OF LYING movie. Below that is my Passing Strange movie post -- if you love music and musicals/rock operas, you have to see this movie, which is now available on Netflix...

Blogs intimidate me. What if I say something wrong? What if I make a mistake...a stupid one? Surely everyone will laugh at me. I just know it.

I think on my blog I have a total of four and I've had the blog forever. Nothing smart to say.

I should write about nats (sp?)...they're all around me in a highrise building. How did they get in?

Anyway, that's where I am.
