Yes, I do. I gave a lecture on SF to the SF Club at Nanjing University last term and I'm splicing it up into smaller posts for my own website. I'll be posting a new one each week. Some of you will find them old hat, since I was dealing with an audience of fans who had no way of knowing about the context of the books they had been reading. You should be able to read them at my livejournal address in my signature below.

I've updated my blog rather regularly the past month, mainly due to being stuck in London during the coldest February in 30 years. http://tedacross.blogspot.com/

I've been trying to update semi-regularly, so there's probably a few since I've last been in here, but for today we have the first of what will probably become many anecdotes from my youth.

Hello All!
Updated my blog today to discuss writer's block, and how a visit to In-N-Out helped (kind of).
http://sarahenni.wordpress.com/2010/03/ ... ers-block/

Question I ask in there -- anyone else have experience working through a revised ending? What are some writing exercises that helped you?

Also have a post about how dreams play a role in inspiration (http://sarahenni.wordpress.com/2010/03/02/dreams/)
and what kind of music writers listen to while they write (http://sarahenni.wordpress.com/2010/02/27/soundtrack/)

I update almost every day of the week...though that's a little new for me. I try to have one "big topic" a week, and the rest is kind of an update on my progress. I've already talked about marketing to Nerds with fantasy books, and how writers to young people should always keep the quality of their work in mind because, at some level, they are teachers to those developing minds. It's all at http://gilesth.blogspot.com

I've just posted my interview with Jennifer R. Hubbard, author of "The Secret Year." She's a client of Nathan's.

I just posted a possible new beginning to my first novel. I'm glad for any constructive feedback. It is fantasy. I haven't really done flashbacks before, so I am nervous about whether I did it right or not. http://tedacross.blogspot.com/2010/03/p ... shard.html

New Blog

Post by Matthew MacNish » March 11th, 2010, 5:28 pm

Please come read my blog and let me know if (that) you think it is a wonderful and brave idea. In it I am posting every query I have sent and the responses (mostly rejections, but a couple requests) I have received for my only novel. It is a pretty scary and very embarrassing process, especially considering how terrible the early queries were, but it is already making me feel better about the whole experience. Query writing is a painful and harrowing task, especially for us novice writers who spend months or years pouring our hearts out into our novels. Then you have to write a one page professional but still exciting letter that sells how awesome your story is to some unknown (and probably busy, jaded and already wealthy) stranger if you ever want to get published.

I for one hate it. It probably doesn't help that I'm horrible at it. Nonetheless I am determined. Determined to get better at it and I would like to share the journey of how I do so with the world. Or at least with the 10 other unpublished writers who find the time to visit. Think of it as Julie & Julia for unpublished authors, except much more awkward and depressing. Anyway please stop by and have a look. Follows, comments and links (back) are appreciated but certainly not required, unless you're Mr. Bransford and you run the best blog about writing/publishing on the internet since Miss Snark.

I've been doing a week-long series about characters! We've looked at more than one aspect of character development every day, writing tips and exercises included!. Tomorrow is the last in the series. Time to catch up! :D

I wrote a post today that I've been thinking about for awhile, inspired by the Olympics and Nathan's post from last week, "What writing and lying have in common".
http://moirayoung.livejournal.com/4348.html

Edited to add: Whoops, I suppose I should say what it's about. I talked about why I don't like using the word "lying", and what word would better describe it.
