A quick reminder-post about the importance of both past and present when worldbuilding: http://claudiea.blogspot.com/2011/07/wo ... eline.html

Our most important contract is the one we make with our readers.
I talk about why it's so essential to maintain our readers' trust, and what we, as readers, expect from authors we trust.

This was lots and lots of fun to write.

One of the nicest people in the self-publishing world has had a very good week. J Carson Black has agreed a publishing deal with Amazon's new imprint Thomas & Mercer. Not only that, she has sold 250,000 e-books. In a few months.

Pretty amazing.

To read the announcement, and to hear from the lady herself, please read today's blog:

About authors we would like to emulate. More specifically, about one author I admire, and wondering who you admire...

Amazon's sales are BOOMING. And they are investing the money in finding new customers in new international markets, while their publishing arm continues to sign up successful self-publishers to sell to them.

It would be nice to sell a million books. It would be flattering to have every agent and publisher in New York clamoring for your signature. But it would also be nice to win the lottery.

Let’s talk about realistic goals.
