Major US Agency Moves Into Publishing. Or Do They?

It seems like the big news stories are coming every day now. That’s what happens when you combine the disruptive power of the internet with a revolutionary change like digital self-publishing.

In an announcement that is sure to cause some surprise, Dystel & Goderich – agents for Barack Obama, Judge Judy, John Locke, Joy Bauer, David Morell, and Richard Dreyfuss – have announced a move into publishing. Or have they?

First, I want to look at what this actually is, and then I will examine whether it is a good idea or not.

I've been working on a large game writing project, and on my blog I put up some discussion of how you plan for a long-term series. If folks are interested, I'd love to put up more posts on the topic in more detail.

The Double-Duty Couch: Literary Fiction as Therapy?

A new book and recent article argue that:

"The novels Americans read most, and how they read them, now inevitably reflect the triumph of the therapeutic."

I examine whether this is in fact a shift in the literary landscape: Does literature need to be therapeutic?

And I've just added Friday's Post:

The Summer Dip: Welcome to July

The fact that no new posts have been added in the last day seems to confirm that we might be caught in this "dip."

How to keep the summer from slipping away with our goals unfulfilled?
