Do I have to call Molly Hatchet Milly Ax?

Post by Watcher55 » November 27th, 2010, 8:49 am

In my nearly completed first novel (If Nathan had nickel for every time. . . .), I make anachronistic references to songs songwriters and products in the text. for example one kid is wearing a Molly Hatchet t-shirt and Converse tennis shoes and I have specific (non-critical) reasons for including those details. How much resistance to the practice should I expect from agents and publishers? I know this is similar to a previous question about place names but I wonder if I've crossed into trademark issues.

You shouldn't run in to a copyright issues there, and if you have a specific reason for your inclusion of these details in the text, go for it.

I'm afraid I'm not a publishing attorney so probably shouldn't be offering advice on whether or not it's fair game, sorry!
