Official NaNoWriMo 2012 Thread

Post by Sommer Leigh » October 29th, 2012, 12:14 pm

This is it! We've almost hit the big day so I thought now would be a good time to get the official thread up. Post your word counts and your OMG moments here! Also, throw up a notice if you are planning some writing time on Twitter. Use the hashtag #BF1h1k when you are initiating a writing sprint so we can find you easily.

To get this party started I'll be hosting a writing sprint Thursday, November 1st, on Twitter starting at 7pm central standard time. We'll start writing at 7, pause at 8pm and have a 15 break to update each other on our word counts. Then we start again at 8:15 for another 1 hour sprint until 9:15. Another 15 break, and the final sprint starts at 9:30 and goes until 10:30pm. I'll post here and use the hashtag #BF1h1k if you need to find us.

Please post your Twitter ID if you want to be included in group Twitter sprints. You can PM me your Twitter ID if you feel more comfortable not posting it for everyone to see.

Unlike past years, I will not be running a NaNoWriMo Champion/Inspiration thread this year. I'm too overloaded with writing deadlines (and as some of you might have noticed, I don't even have time to blog anymore.) Here are the links to the last couple of years champion threads if you need some inspiration:

I definitely need a post like this to keep me accountable for my word count. Thanks Sommer! You're the best.

I recently deleted my Twitter because I found it more of a distraction than a helpful tool, so I won't be doing the Twitter sprints, obviously. Sharing my word counts here will be helpful though. :)

My Project: to write 50K in my WIP novel. Not finish it but get at least 50K on it.
My Word Count Goal: 50,000 words

Project: Anna's Nuclear Winter
Word Count Goal:138,000 words (Or 11,500 words per chapter.)

My main goal this year is mostly to get the first short done. I need to buy a how to write short fiction book in the mean time.

Can NaNoWriMo be a WIP? I've been outlining and character sketching like crazy because I thought it had to be new.

Project: Untitled YA Contemporary
Word Count Goal: 50,000 words

*technically* NaNoWriMo is for new works, but I'm a NaNo rebel and believe that NaNo is whatever YOU need it to be.

I guess that makes me a Nano rebel.D: I'm doing it to complete a collection of 11,500 word novellettes. And I'm still having to outline like crazy using writing software. I might also teach myself photography to, since I seem to write with pictures. Unfortunately not to many nuclear wastelands around here to photograph.D:

Love this!

Project: Rewrite of my 2010 NaNo novel, a middle grade adventure story
Goal: Hit 50K before Thanksgiving, but also to not stop until I have a complete story.

I've found that I can hit 50K words no problem. FINISHING THE DAMN THING is the tricky part.

I'm around for Twitter sprints, but maybe not on Thursday. Still TBD.

Well they can be any time, I'm just hosting those times on Thursday to kick things off because that's when I'll be settling in for a long night of first night writing. Anyone is able to throw up a Tweet saying "We're starting a #BF1h1k at XX:XX. Who wants to join in?" or whatever.

I'm trying my hand at writing a middle grade book this year. I plan to have the book around 30K, which means I'll have to work on something else to meet the 50K goal. I'll probably go back to last years project, which is a complete mess at the moment. Heh.

I'll be on twitter doing sprints too. My handle is @akari09, which is the same as my NaNo name, so if anyone who hasn't friended me yet wants to, please do!

Good luck everyone!

I don't do the twitter thing as of right now, but I'm planning on participating in Nano this year. I'd love to know all of your Nano nicknames so we can all be friends (hahah - I just pictured daisies and dandelion puffs floating all over!).

My Nano nickname is kristielee

Good luck to all!!!

My Project: A Contemporary YA novel about a teen girl overcoming her suicide attempt
My Word Count Goal:
50,000 to start

Project: A Novel
Word Count Goal: 50,000 - but get bonus points if I actually finish the whole thing

I don't twit (tweet?) :)

I'm a semi-rebel this year - this was my first (and second) NaNo project - got 24k words across two years, and never finished it. It's my only total NaNo failure (I had one more year I missed 50k, but finished the novel and missed by like 700 words so I was happy). It's also a story I've been carrying with me for 10+ years - so I decided I'm getting back to it this NaNo. However, I decided last night to start it over from page 1 instead of continuing where I left off. Reworked the outline and will be doing some more pre-NaNo prep tomorrow :-)

Yes, it's called being a NaNo "Rebel" - the only thing is you can't use whatever you already have towards the count. :-) While the "rules" are new, being a rebel is considered hip and all (there is even a forum dedicated to rebels on the NaNo forums LOL). In the end, it is what you need it to be :-)

I'm with Sommer and the "Nano is what you need it to be". Incidentally this is what I tell my Wrimos (I'm a ML) too, and this year I'm even joining the rebels' rank. I do encourage people to try something new one day (like, say, next year). It's a very different thrill.

Anyhow:

My Project: Karine's Novel, which isn't a title at all but the way I call my latest WIP. It's a post-apo (ish) YA novel to which I would like to add 50k (bonus points if I finish it here too), since my ultimate goal is to have it ready to submit for a mentorship program in March. In French, too.
Goal: 50,000 words. I usually shoot for more, but for the first time in five years I'm unsure I'll manage 50k. So we'll start there and see after!
