Writing under 'contract'

Post by CharleeVale » October 17th, 2012, 1:37 am

So as most of you know I'm working on my thesis which is a stage play. And I can say that this is my first dose of writing under contract and how hard it really is. Granted, I have things in my way that normal writers don't have (graduate classes, homework, and the like), but I think the experience is comparable.

IT'S HARD.

There are people depending on me for this to be good. My partner's thesis, who is directing the show once the script is complete, is entirely dependent on me. Not to mention my advisor wants it to be good to reflect well on him, and with the people from outside the school being invited to the debut, it needs to reflect well on the program.

And I'm slogging through mud trying to write this. Of course stage plays are much harder than novels (at least for me), but still, this is a taste of what writing for a living will be like. Worth it in the end, but really very difficult.

I just thought I'd share that with you guys, since I've been kind of MIA.
