Word Count/Writing Challenge - OCTOBER

Post by Sommer Leigh » October 1st, 2012, 8:19 am

I challenge you to set a writing goal for October and work hard to reach it. The general word count goal is always 30K, but if you've met that in previous months, try 35K.

Standard format: One post per person, updated with new word counts/goal info daily, weekly, whenever. Please consider posting for the first time when you're ready to keep track.

Bonus Format: We can try to manage chat and encouragement in this thread as well, but you should only update word count/writing challenge progress on ONE post.

Want to chat, offer words of encouragement, or get your frustrations off your chest? Join us over at The Coffee Shop - October thread!

I don't know about the rest of you, but October is always my most productive month. I love this time of year!
May the word counts be ever in your favor. http://www.sommerleigh.com

I wish I'd kept track of my word counts last month because I think I ended up in the 40,000 range (I'm working on several projects though, only one of which is the superhero story.) I end up with a huge output every month, but my schedule is pretty eratic. I don't get any work done for five or six days and then I spend three days cramming words in with 12 hour stretches of work time like I'm in college again and I have a paper due tomorrow on The Great Gatsby's impact on women in literature.

I'm going to try to keep track better this month. Also because October is my favorite month of the year :-)

I'm in again for October! I love challenging myself even if I don't make my word count goal. Last month I only wrote 22K, so this month, I think I'll shoot for 25K. I'd also like to get my query letter finalized, and even start writing a synopsis of my completed MS...

October word count:

10/8 - 922
10/9-10/16 - 2541 (okay, this month has been a little on the dry side for writing)
10/17-10/18 - 2664

Total word count for October: 6127

You guys keep doing this while I'm editing and querying, and it's just cheating to keep track of word counts when editing. Well, maybe in a month or two . . . .

I thought of this post just the other day b/c I realized that part of my goal for this month was actually to decrease my word count (actually, it was to "cull" the first few chapters). So, I am quite proud of the fact that I have successfully decreased my word count by almost 6k.
