Queries that got picked

Post by Amanda Elizabeth » July 31st, 2012, 6:07 pm

So I've begun to follow a blog, YA Highway, and wanted to share this "query series" they do where they choose a published book and have the accepted query letter posted along with the agent's reasons why he/she was drawn to it. There are a bunch of them and it's really helping me re-shape my own query:

This is a wonderful resource. Writer's Digest has a very similar series, which is not limited to YA novels. I think they're really tried to hit upon all types of genres and sub-genres out there. It's called "Successful Queries".

Here's the link: http://www.writersdigest.com/editor-blo ... ul-queries.

Of course, they have a few YA queries too. And they also have commentary from the agent that tells what the agent liked about the query. What I've really learned from series like this is that each agent has different styles and forms that appeal to them. I'm not sure whether that's heartening or disheartening.

Good luck, everyone!
