WIP Playlist share

Post by CharleeVale » August 12th, 2011, 12:26 am

So in another topic we all talked about how we had playlists specifically for our WIP's and characters, and I'm so curious what is on everyone's!!!

I thought it might be cool if we had a place to list our playlists so that other's might enjoy, and also maybe get some more inspiration for their own!

Mine's like super long....I'm sorry if I bore you. But I love these songs, and I feel like other writer's might too. Plus I'm procrastinating! Have fun!

I listen to a lot of movie soundtracks, and they are usually what I find most inspiring....so a lot of songs are from there. This is the Soundtrack for my Current WIP Marked.

I don't have a playlist for either of my novels, but I did listen to a lot of 30 Seconds to Mars when writing The Wilds, my YA zombie book. And Tyler Ward's cover of E.T. by Katy Perry inspired the original idea for my untitled superhero YA.

May the word counts be ever in your favor. http://www.sommerleigh.com

Sommer, I listened to a lot of 30 Seconds to Mars too for TLF.

2. Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen

3. Alibi by 30 seconds to Mars

4. Appassionata by Beethoven

5. Grim Goodbye by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

6. Broken by Leona Lewis

7. Requiem by Mozart

8. The End by Kings of Leon

9. Nothing Else Matters (instrumental) by David Garrett

10. The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars

11. Stockholm Syndrome by Muse

12. Princess Mononoke Theme by Joe Hisaishi

13. Helm's Deep (Two Towers soundtrack) by Howard Shore

14. Forth Eorlingas (Two Towers soundtrack) by Howard Shore

15. All I Wanted by Paramore

16. Resistance by Muse

17. Aerith's Theme (from FF VII) by Nobuo Uematsu

18. Romeo and Juliet theme by I cant remember, but the version from the play. Also, Tchaikovsky's version.

19. Swan Lake ballet by Tchaikovsky

20. Sleeping Beauty Waltz by Tchaikovsky

21. Alone and Forsaken by Dave Matthews and Neil Young

22. Hostias by Mozart

23. Butterflies and Hurricanes by Muse

24. Decode by Paramore

25. Cosmic Love by Florence and the Machine

There are more, but those are the core songs I listen to when I'm stuck, or need to set the mood.

And Only Girl in the World by Rhianna inspired a change of direction in my sci-fi.

Charlee, holy smokes, that's a list! Do you have all of those lined up in You Tube as a playlist? If so, please let me know! I would love to listen to many of those and if they're already lined up in a playlist that I can just listen to, that would be perfect. Because I'm lazy like that. :D

This is also quite timely because I'm working on a blog post about music, how to find new tunes, playlists per character or overall piece, etc. Clearly, I'm not as well-versed in music as I thought because Charlee's and Cookie's lists alone are full of epicness! Thank you for sharing!

I love this one. Perhaps it means I need to check out more songs on your playlist.

Innocent by Fuel was a major inspiration for my overall setting.

Trixie - Here you go. These are all the songs that were available on youtube, but the other ones are good too so you should check them out! http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLABD1D66CDE14DE91

Cookie - I love a lot of your songs. A bunch of them are on my normal writing playlist. :P

That is a great song. It fits one of my characters so well that the first time I heard it, I was like "How does he know? O_o"

Yeah, the first time I heard Innocent I was driving in the car, and suddenly all these thoughts on a setting (or settings) congealed into this epic about fate and becoming trapped in cycles of sin. A little dark stuff, I guess.

When I get off work, I may check youTube to see what some of the other bands on your list are like. Maybe I can find more inspirations.

Charlee-- Looks like we both have great taste in music :D

I'm not familiar with a lot of the songs on your playlist, but I will definitely check them out. I love discovering new music, especially new writing music.

Charlee,
Wow! That was a lot of work putting together that playlist. Thanks for sharing it. I like a lot of the movie soundtracks you and others have. Most of what I listen to is classical (which movie stuff falls under for me :) ) Weirdly enough, I never thought of putting it all on a playlist from YouTube! I have a Rhapsody account that I use and download lots of classical. But I'm thinking I can save myself $15 a month and just go through YouTube!

Saving money = $15.00
Great playlist = priceless!

I organize my playlist by mood. Here's my "serious and sad" playlist. The ones with the * are songs that I have to stop writing and listen to, but man are they evocative!

After the Storm - Mumford & Sons
* Exogenesis Symphony Part 3 - Muse
* On A Sunlit Stage - Villagers
* The Island - the Decemberists
She Has No Time - Keane
Bedshaped - Keane
From My Own True Love - the Decemberists
Drown Out - Glen Hansard
* The Moon - Glen Hansard
Foreground - Grizzly Bear
Overcome - Live
Yesterday - The Beatles
Never Is A Promise - Fiona Apple
The Ghost of You - My Chemical Romance
* Country Feedback - REM
Blackberry Stone - Laura Marling
* Everything You Ever - Neil Patrick Harris (from Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog)
Top of the World - Patti Griffin
As Cold As It Gets - Patti Griffin
If Not Now, When? - Incubus
Almost Lover - A FIne Frenzy
Incomplete - the Backstreet Boys
Panic Prone - Chevelle
And Will A'Not Come Again - Chicago a capella (from Twelfth Night)
* Nymphes de Bois - Josquin du Pres
Was It A Dream? - 30STM
Hurricane - 30STM

I also have an "action" playlist and a "sexy/romantic" playlist.

I was noticing that a couple of people have "Huricanne" on their lists - this song fascinates me. I had this whole story in my mind for it and then I saw part of the 12 minute SMBD extravaganza that was the video (before VHI and MTV banned it) and I thought, "F*ing Jared Leto, ruining my beautiful fantasy..." Has anyone else seen it?

I've seen it. I felt the same way. Here I was all convinced that he had stolen my manuscript because it fit one of my characters so perfectly, and then yea...

*boom*

Seriously, my head is exploding with this awesome thread. Megan! Do you have those tunes arranged in a playlist as well? (See earlier comment about me being lazy.) I need to get off gchat and pop over to You Tube ASAP so I can get some tunes lined up for NaNo.

And I've never heard the Hurricane song or the 12-min SMDB stuff related to it. Color me curious...
