Thanks Mira. I will definitely be practicing a lot over the Christmas vacation. Good luck with your own writing.

I'm writing a series about a teenager who goes on a great adventure. I bet nobody ever thought of that! Totally original!

SF authors Arthur C. Clarke and Charles Sheffield famously wrote and published novels about Space Elevators simultaneously in the late Seventies. And settled the matter in a famous duel in which they killed each other. Well, no. I made up the duel part. They remained friends.

And the Keystone Cops could probably sue everyone who's written or filmed a car chase during the last hundred years.

Every story has antecedents, and agents expect books to fit into certain categories and be comparable to other books.

Mira, you left out the fourth basic plot, Boy Versus Girl.

Ijkuhnley, seeing Volvos everywhere is a well recognized symptom of stress. Except in Sweden. Take it easy, unless you're Swedish.
