If you want good lyrics, can't go wrong with Josh Ritter. And he does have a novel coming out soon. :)

Here's an excerpt from his song "Temptation of Adam".

Then one night you found me in my army issue cot
And you told me of your flash of inspiration
You said fusion was the broken heart that’s lonely’s only thought
And all night long you drove me wild with your equations

Oh Marie do you remember all the time we used to take
We’d make our love and then ransack the rations
I think about you leaving now and the avalanche cascades
And my eyes get washed away in chain reactions

Ooh! I love song lyrics...but I tend to only like snippets...the moments of true "brilliance"...

There's a band called The Damnwells who are no longer together but their main songwriter wrote amazing lyrics (and subsequently went to the Iowa Writers Workshop)...I can never remember the long stretches of his lyrics but I can remember the moments.

If my life was a distance,
what mile would you claim?

You're on the heartbreaklist
You're on the payroll
You come with a hit and miss
And gone when the lights go

Go out under white street lights
And find the real black and white
The blueprints just might say you were right
I won’t go home till I’ve found my way there
I wont leave here with old faded fears
Of what’s gone and what was never here

These are all different songs, btw.

Other times, I just want to rock.
