Hi! I have been honing my PHP skills and created a webpage that calculates the mass of your submission (mailing envelope, pages, plus SASE) for those evenings when you MUST mail something off but the post office is already closed.
http://www.jjdebenedictis.com/WritersWe ... hScale.php
You'll have to check your country's post office website for the going rate on mailing envelopes, but this will at least give you the approximate mass of your submission.
The webpage is free to use and contains no advertising or evil hidden code. I'm just a writer who thought this would be useful and abruptly realized she knew enough to create it herself!

This also comes in handy if you have given up and are going to shoot your manuscript into a very low orbit around the sun.
Thanks, jj!

Forgive my lack of eloquence, but LOL! :-D
Re: Website Calculates the Mass of Your Submission
So creative... for fun, I even ran my unfinished novel through it.
Alas, even when the post office is closed, the lobbies stay open all night so people who rent P.O. boxes can pick up their mail. Most branches have a wonderful machine in the lobby that weighs anything from envelopes to packages, plus sells exact postage -- you just key in the destination zip code and use a debit or credit card instead of cash. I use that machine all the time so I don't have to stand in line.
The good news is I want to hire you to build an invisibility machine.

Re: Website Calculates the Mass of Your Submission
I expect one area writers might benefit from a submission mass calculator is when ordering postage online, user printed, applied to the package, and the package dropped off at a convenient outside pickup location, or put out with outgoing mail in the mailbox. I have a postage scale though.
Spread the love of written word.

What can I say? F***** brilliant. I live in a remote country area in Ireland, with no easy access to a post office to go and check the weight of things.. so this is fabulous. Can I mail you a present?
