When young Sam runs away from home, he does not realize the hardships he faced at the hands of his Aunt, Uncle, and the rough streets of 1840’s London are nothing compared to the peril’s his life is put to at the hands of the sea, sailors, and the war he encounters. Survival has its price and he losses all his friends. Years later a surprise reunion rekindles love and a partnership in the shipping business. An anything but ‘Civil’ war, makes block-aide runners out of them. War’s end leaves the South, Sam and his friends in ruins. The bonds that held them together are fraying and threatening to disband them. In a moment of despair he opens a bible given to him by an old crippled pirate on his deathbed; Captain Hilliard, once Sam’s only friend. He finds the directions to Captain Hilliard's inheritance. His great grandfathers treasure, looted from the Spanish. Sam never believed those stories and would not even in despair dare entertain the belief of a buried treasure, but as he reads the brittle parchment he realizes the directions ring true, as he has traveled up many a waterway with his years of running the blockade. He could follow these directions in the dark. And he has.
