Critique partners are worth their weight in gold. So (checking financial page) like $20,000 a pound.

Creative Me: A Writing Buddy

Post by ladyf » September 12th, 2019, 8:57 am

“There is no greater agony
than bearing an untold story inside you.“
Maya Angelou

The morning starts with the obligatory cup of coffee, dark chocolate and the perfect melody of Rhapsody in Blue… Ah, those wonderful moments, when you are surrounded by treats, looking intently at the blank page. Writing is much like giving birth…Coffee helps. Collaboration helps, that’s why I am actively seeking for adherents, because teamwork somehow boosts my sense of humor, and it is legendary. But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for: that reliable, positive person who will be deeply involved in playing with me. That person with whom we will start a game, which will be an addiction, an indulgence, an obsession, and we will be joining efforts together every minute of every day to eventually see our stories come to life...

This is why I need a dashing writing buddy. Or several of them. I have created and populated this imaginary world, a beautiful magickal planet, with Enchanted Forests, Golden Rivers and Houses made of mushrooms, princesses and kings, and royals and their desires, and Gods and Goddesses, and elves, and dwarves, and fairies, and witches, and wizards, and for that matter unicorns, and fairy tale folk. Shapeshifters, magick wands, and sorceresses are welcome, as well as pendants and bracelets of different powers, and swords with names…oh!

And I want to write romance-vanilla stories which take place there.

Yes, I am willing to exchange critiques with you. I have several critique partners but always look for more and better!

My short stories are also speculative: not other worlds but our world in the future. It is a solarpunk world where we have beaten global warming. They are fantasy or science fiction or comedy or horror, sometimes a mix. I would send the stories one at a time, as they are finished. Each one is 5K - 10K. I would always make sure that I am sending no more words than what I am reading and critiquing for you.

Most of the stories feature the New Little Princess as MC. She is a child pop star whose career starts in 2025. She is getting somewhat popular on wattpad through my stories, "Green Princess" and "'Shipped". She is a piano prodigy, instinctively funny, a campaigner for climate change action, democracy in Guatemala (her adopted home from 2022), and against school shootings, a bright, tough, precocious kid who could disable you by kicking both your kneecaps or jumping on your insoles or even shoot you with her concealed derringer that she keeps for protection, beautiful, with a heart of gold and knee-length hair to match. Her mother is Scottish, she grew up in Manchester, England to age 6 and thereafter in Guatemala City: so she is bilingual (fluent in Guatemalan Spanish) and speaks northern England and Scottish English, in a patois.

Right now I am working on an anthology project for Golden Fleece Publishing called "The Princess' Apocrypha": half of the stories are before the Princess' stardom, where she comes from (starting at age 2), and half are after stardom at age 9-11. They are stories that did not make it into the novel The New Little Princess, which will be submitted very soon.

Are you a published author? What is your published experience like? Have you done critiques before? Where?

If interested, please reply. If we agree, I would receive your story and send you my first story "Moon Kid" (8900) words by e-mail.
