Re: Revised query, Paranormal romance, I WOULD HAVE LOVED YOU AN

I really like that query and if I had the book, I'd want to read that too. The only thing that gives me pause is that Reid is searching for his soulmate with the knowledge that whoever she is will have his triplet sons. If I were Presley, I'd run screaming from the guy! lol. It's one thing to have t...

Re: Are dialogue tags really that bad?

I use very few dialogue tags. As for the OP's example, there are plenty of ways to write it to convey emotion without a tag at all depending on the context. The funny thing is, I had my book up for crit somewhere, and a few people took the 'no dialogue tags' to the extreme. They'd find the ONE tag I...

Re: Be the first to read my first page? :)

I wonder why she's the only freshman. At first, I thought she was a new student having to start mid term, but then you mention that she chose the class in early summer with her best friend so that theory went out the window. I'm just confused, I guess. The writing is pretty good, it definitely has a...

Re: Favorite drink while writing (or procrastinating)?

I drink Rockstars, either the Sugar-Free one or the Zero Carb one. The first time I ever had one, I wrote almost 5k that day. Good stuff too! Ever since then, I've been trying to recapture the magic of that writing day. It hasn't happened, sadly. ;-) The closest I've come is maybe 3k in a day.

Re: Craptastic covers... what are your pet peeves?

Same here, A.M. Kuska. In fact, any overly bright cover with goofy fonts that are supposed to mimic handwriting, scream chick lit to me and I pass them by without looking. However, those who love chick lit are probably looking for that exact type of cover so they can zero in and easily find what the...

Re: Novel Length

My book is just a hair under 90k and it's aimed at adults. I mean, YA could read it too with no problem, but it's not aimed at them. If I count everything that I've written for this book, it would be well over 150k. lol. But I revised, changed scenes, etc. I think Ink has some great suggestions. I f...

Re: Hot & Cold!

*raises hand* Yep. I'll join the club. I was just reading some of my middle chapters last night because I cut something that didn't work (which made me feel my writing sucked) and had written a new scene. As I inserted the new scene, I read the part before and after to make sure I didn't have any pl...

Re: Using Google Docs to write MS? Input from NATHAN??

Thanks Nathan and everyone for your input. I was thinking that Google Docs does have beta reader benefits for sure, but I think I'll stick to Word like I've done in the past and then maybe do the backup on G Docs. Or...I suppose I have my Mac Cloud I could put it on. Either way, Word it is until I ...

Great news! It's the closest bookstore to me and the place is always busy. It amazed me that they were in trouble.

Re: Have your blog reading/commenting habits changed?

I have to confess, I don't quite *get* Twitter. Half the time, I have no idea who is the original Tweeter. lol. I'm there, have been for a year now, but the only reason I signed up was because my job encouraged it last year. They were going to 'tweet' a live double knee replacement surgery. Yeah. I ...

Re: Using Google Docs to write MS? Input from NATHAN??

You can write your manuscript on google docs and then download it to your own computer. It will download as MS Word or rtf. However, be aware that you may end up with funky formatting and extra spaces when you download or copy and paste. I used google docs for my manuscript because it was handy to h...

Re: Will my MC's name kill my chances?

I also stumbled on the name. Part of that might be attributed to my new bifocal contacts I'm trying to get used to, but some was also the unfamiliarity of the name. For me, when I figured out a how to say it in my head, it didn't give me any mental picture of who this character might be. Of course, ...

Re: Have your blog reading/commenting habits changed?

I'm a new blogger, having started on March 1st. I had two friends as followers. I'm up to 40 followers in a month, which I'm happy about. I'm just now forming my blogging habits, so none have changed, but as I get more followers, I add more blogs that I follow. A first, I was reading everyone's blog...

I have a new one. I only missed one day of blogging in the last few weeks, I think. It's fun and addictive.
