Re: You know her, Right?
I thought something along the same lines, but then there's the thing about never mentioning rejections on a query I'm sure I've read before. Hence the quandry I'm in... I don't think you need to mention the rejection, just say that [agent] mentioned [other agent] as possibly being a good fit...

Re: You know her, Right?
Question is: When query said agent, should I mention the first agent pointed me that way, or just treat it as a fresh start? Anyone had this problem/come across advice on how to approach it? Sorry about the rejection, Hillsy. I would probably mention it, in a casual way such as: "I was given y...

Thanks Sleeping Beauty, Margo and Cookie! I'm so excited for this story. It was one of the fun ones.

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread
Finally received the cover art for my novella coming out in January from Carina Press. The design literally stunned me...or maybe it was the visual representation of all the work I'd done going from idea to publication.

Re: How to handle request for an exclusive read
Six weeks is often an agent-suggested timeframe. But I've also seen two and four weeks. Unless I really wanted to work with a specific agent, I don't know that I would grant more than four. John, it would be worth it to ask her. If she is unable to give you a timeframe, feel free to specify that you...

Re: Enlisting the services of an editor
Stephen, You can ask friends to beta read for you, but if you're looking for actual editing, you need to pay for it. Critical reading and writing up edit letters is time consuming. I'm talking days, not hours, for a manuscript of this length (assuming 500 pages at 250 words a page). The estimates I'...

Re: Book Country
The one thing that struck me as actually different from other self-pub assist programs was Book Country's distribution. Their website shows a chart indicating theirs is much broader than their main competitors'. I wonder if anyone has compared sales on a single or limited distribution network versus...

Re: How do you interact with your fave authors online?
Great question, Nicole. I follow the blogs of a few authors, but they are mostly newer or debut authors that I follow because I'm interested in both their journeys and their writing. Virtually all interaction is on twitter. I follow authors who don't interact but are interesting, some who only post ...

Re: Failure and Tension
I'd like to add one more item to this discussion and, if it's already been mentioned I apologize. With tension and conflict come The Stakes. The prize or the loss. 1) What's important to the character? 2) How important is it, or what will happen if the character doesn't win/acquire/achieve it? 3) Do...
