I'm a current high school senior about to graduate. And in the fall, I'll be in college at long last!

Re: Narrative or Dialogue based story?
If the narrator is a covert one, does she/he/it intrude on or complement a viewpoint character's voice? In Free Indirect Discourse, a covert narrator is subsumed by a viewpoint character's persona, essentially taking over the narration in a freewheeling transference from a narrator to a third-perso...

Narrative or Dialogue based story?
As I edited my novel, I noticed that a lot of the voice of the novel really comes out in the dialogue, rather than in the narrations and the descriptions (there's some voice, but the non-dialogue parts aren't as "voice-y" (haha is that a word?) as the dialogue parts). Is that a problem? Or...

Protocol for querying agents from the same agency
How long should you wait between sending out two queries to two different agents from the same agency? Should you wait at all? Or should you only query one agent per agency? This has probably been covered somewhere else on this forum, but I just did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for :(

Re: Write a query before you're done with the book?
I heard that was a no-no, because if the agent asks for a partial/full and you don't have a partial or a full that's completely edited and sparkling then...that would be bad. However, with non-fiction (non-narrative, i.e. not memoirs), querying without a completed MS is okay. You just need a proposa...

Re: MS Cover Page Issues - Technical Question
Thanks for this! It is quite helpful. But do you have page numbers on every page of your MS? How do you change the auto-numbering so that it starts with 1 on the true first page of the MS instead of with 2 (like it always does with me...grr) Also, this might be a dumb question, but are cover sheets ...

MS Cover Page Issues - Technical Question
Every time I try to create a cover page for my MS, it automatically makes the first page after the cover page page 2 (the page numbering system on Word does). I've tried to many times to make it begin with 1 on the first page after the cover page, but it never does and it's really agitating. Any adv...

Re: Does the query system work? An analysis
If you're a poor writer, it really doesn't take a lengthy writing sample for you to demonstrate that you're not ready for prime-time. The query letter provides enough information for agents to reject most submissions. If your query has clunky prose, awkward sentence structure, passive voice or poor...

Re: When Should You Feel Comfortable Calling Yourself a WRITER?
Robin, I totally know how you feel with that "coming out of the writerly closet" feeling. Whenever I tell people that I write and am working on a novel, working on query letters, etc, I always feel like they think I'm super pretentious because they think that "real authors" are s...

Yay yet another query revision! This time, I tried to add more "voice"/make the story sound more interesting and less like a book report. I hope I succeeded xDD Clara Vargas Leighton is a model mini-aristocrat during Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship. She’s the adopted daughter of a colonel ...
