Re: My Self-Publishing Experiment - Initial Results.

I'm about to put two ebooks online this summer. Here are covers designed by Stewart A. Williams, http://www.stewartwilliamsdesign.com. One is a sci-fi novel, the other nonfiction. Stewart was affordable, prompt and professional. Haunted Ground has a hand-drawn, historical map of the Gettysburg batt...

Re: My Self-Publishing Experiment - Initial Results.

Thanks, Dave -- I love your covers, too. The bird inside the foliage is beautiful and the eyes facing in opposite directions are so clever. I'm ordering a Kindle and plan to buy both stories. The monster foot in my cover Lost Cargo is actually a photo of a real alligator foot. I saw it online, conta...

Re: My Self-Publishing Experiment - Initial Results.

My first novel, Irrefutable, has been on Amazon.com as an e-book for about three weeks, since 5/24/2011 So far I have only sold 13 copies and 1 copy on Smashwords. It has received good reviews so far but the visibility is still minimal. Any comments on my cover are welcome. Dale http://www.amazon.c...

Re: First round of edits - a long way to go!

Congratulations! As far as asking people to read a first draft, it depends on the readers. I run first draft material by several people (in small amounts) and get great feedback on plot holes, unrealistic character reactions, etc. You just don't want to wear people out if you're going to ask the sam...

Re: Pop Bottle to Pulp

I enjoyed your story... and was hoping you would end up married to the girl who delivered the newspapers, but alas, 'twas not meant to be.

Re: query: WHOSE TEETH ARE AS SWORDS (YA sci-fi) - Take 2

Hi Krista. I just came on here and saw your query. It struck me that there are a lot of "old" references -- grannies and several Old Man Hermes.I know you need to use those terms, but I'm tired right now and my eye picked them out. Other than that, I like it. Good luck to you!

Re: Pop Bottle to Pulp

I love it, Polymath. Economics aside, your story brought back a childhood memory of bikes and heat and a store with a screen door that slapped shut, a big Coke machine, and the wonderful rattle of the ice cold glass bottle tumbling down the chute. Ahhh, I can still taste that Coke.

Re: Favorite Summertime Recipes

Homemade pesto (usually cold on 3 cheese tortellini mixed with tomato chunks or grape tomatoes and fresh mozzarella). There's nothing better than homemade pesto, especially if you made it yourself (or helped in a pesto-making marathon with friends). Pesto is from the gods. To heck with spreading it...

Re: Favorite Summertime Recipes

But Holly, don't you have to cook the rice? Hi, Quill, Yes, darn it... but in a rice cooker that turns itself off. I've burned a lot of pots to a creepy black crisp and wised up to rice cookers. Did you know that eggs will explode when the water boils out of the pot? (I was writing at the time...) ...

How do you prep the black beans? How long do you soak them?
Well, I was going to lie to you and say "Overnight, and then cook for 30-40 minutes"... BUT, if you are lazy like me, open a can of organic black beans and save yourself the trouble, ha ha.

Re: Favorite Summertime Recipes

Yum! Cold stuff recipes, no cooking involved: Black bean salad, with black beans (naturally), brown rice, chopped avocado, and diced tomato -- for people like me who think boiling water is too much work. Plus my grandmother's summertime tunafish salad: Tuna, mayo, diced celery, raisins, and chopped ...

http://www.coverpop.com/pop/visco/

Here's a cool graphic of several thousand science fiction magazine covers.

Run your mouse/cursor over the covers to see more info and click to see a full cover. The website says the covers are arranged horizontally by time and vertically by color.

Re: Making Time to Write

I hear you! It's tough with a family, a job, pets, errands... What works for me: (1) Schedule writing time on the family calendar just like any other activity. When you're serious about writing, you'll make the time. What would you do if you had homework for a college class? You have to ask for your...

Re: Putting together a marketing plan? Help!

First of all, congratulations! I hope your book is a roaring success. My suggestion: Go to Google and search "romance blog reviews" or something that includes "blog reviews." It should bring up a ton of blogs that review romance novels. Then go to those blogs one by one and read ...
