Re: Technical question
I'm going to back up what Hillsy said. I wouldn't even go so far as to put quotes around it. Half your readers won't get it or won't realize what you meant anyway, so you're only really providing that little winkwinknudgenudge reference to the half that will read it and will get it. To everyone else...

Re: Realistic Action
My concern comes from the "proceeds to kick the crap out of him" part not coming off as believable. Not to the reader (though they might have the same concern I do) but to the other characters. Even if she's pretending not to be a noblewoman, her body and physique are still going to be tha...

Re: What's the Best and Worst Feedback You've Ever Gotten?
"You wasted my time." Dude, that is mean! Who would write that? In a critique group??? I didn't take it with much weight. The group disolved shortly after and that particular person had a reputation for not liking anyone's work and often took the time to "rewrite" other's work h...

Re: What's the Best and Worst Feedback You've Ever Gotten?
I once had the opportunity to have a brief email conversation with a YA author I really looked up to when I was first working through the zombie book. She said to me and I can't remember the exact quote, but it basically went when people say they really loved what you wrote or when they say they rea...

Re: When do I tell someone I have written something?
So my question is this, do I move on to the second story/book on this potential series or should I work on something completely unrelated and new? This is really a personal decision for you, and I think part of it probably has to do with what you want to do with the books when they are done. I pers...

Re: Increase in Spam
Okay, so after a seriously long time dealing with spam (special thanks to Sommer for her whac-a-mole efforts), I finally was able to spend an afternoon updating the board code, fixing a few issues manually, and created a new spam question that will hopefully have the spambots confused for a while. ...

Re: When do I tell someone I have written something?
The way you feel? Totally normal. You don't have to tell anyone you wrote a book if you don't want to. But if you plan to try and publish it, you should get used to talking about it. And...most of us experience different reactions from people, from true pleasure and support to dumbfounded "Why ...

Is anyone involved in a midnight write-fest to kick off NaNo? I'm not this year, but I know there are a couple around my town.

And holy cow I am so in love with Arrow!!! I'm surprised at how well they've adapted the comic book. Yes! Arrow love! I was vaguely aware it was based off a comic book, but it sure doesn't feel like a comic book adaptation, not the way some superhero movies sometimes do. I'm a little surprised it's...

Re: Official NaNoWriMo 2012 Thread
I'll miss the sprints being on the west coast. Won't be home from work yet :-P Well they can be any time, I'm just hosting those times on Thursday to kick things off because that's when I'll be settling in for a long night of first night writing. Anyone is able to throw up a Tweet saying "We'r...

*technically* NaNoWriMo is for new works, but I'm a NaNo rebel and believe that NaNo is whatever YOU need it to be.Amanda Elizabeth wrote:Can NaNoWriMo be a WIP? I've been outlining and character sketching like crazy because I thought it had to be new.
