Re: QUERY: THE LAST DRAGON

I'm going to second Krista's points. I think with better transitions and a tad bit more detail into why Nadine does the things she does will make this query very good. As it is, I skimmed through it until I got to the last line and then I was like, "wait, wait, WHAT?" I of course had to go...

Re: Query Critique--Aurumenas

Ha! I didn't even notice that there were more responses to this! I was sure it had slid down into second page purgatory. I haven't neglected it, though. I've been trying to address all the issues pointed out to me in the first few responses, but now I see some other really good points. Thank you all...

She works for Steve who apparently works next to Cretinous van Poopypants. It's all over the website you know. :)

Christi,

That is so wrong, but so funny! I just can't stop laughing long enough to say any more than that. Too funny!

Re: Literary YA--What is it?

I would think that it would be a category of its own, though I'll admit that I haven't really kept up with YA fiction since I ceased to be a young adult. And I certainly don't know what modern YA would necessarily be considered Literary, however The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Little House ...

Re: Creating Characters

I usually start with one person with no real character or history and put them into a dangerous, funny, stimulating situation maybe even with some other people and then I sit back and discover who this person is. For example, on my newest project, Wolf Moon (shameless plug--see below :) ), I decided...

Re: Length of novel issues

My first drafts tend to be about the 50-70,000 range, but then I add a bit more during the editing process. I don't think it's a necessarily a bad thing to have such a small word count in your finished product, just as long as your story is complete and thorough.

Re: Foreign Language

Of course not! As much as we may like to think it to be true, the world does not just speak English. It's completely realistic (and not at all cliche) to have characters speaking a different language Though, as a reader, I like to see a discreet translation here and there so that I don't feel comple...

Re: Blog Traffic...Creating a Traffic Jam

If you're really looking to get your name out there, feel free to send me a blog post outlining what your blog is about and/or include the kind of content that you plan on having. I reserve Fridays for guest bloggers in order to help fellow writers advertise their own blogs. However, I do have one s...

Re: Moving from third omniscent to third limited?

I've read books that used first person past, first person present, third person limited, and omniscient. Sometimes, the different POV's were even used in the same chapter (through the use of scene breaks). Each character had his/her/its own different POV form. I think it works very well, as long as ...

Help for the OCD, Computer "not-so-literate" Writer

There's probably not a high percentage of people who don't at least know how to operate a mouse and a keyboard, but there are still many of us who look at that shiny little screen with a bit of apprehension. We are the computer "not-so-literate." Add to that a perverse compulsion to edit a...

Re: Juggling

I'm the mother of two little boys ( two and six months) who don't seem to want to take their naps at the same time, so yes, it's hard to find the time to write. I usually have to wait until late at night when they're in bed and the hubby is content to do something by himself.

I'm a fan of the library myself, but when I find some extra change lying around the house, I'll drive over to B&N to buy a book.

Re: Do you like Hardcovers?

I like the way my hardcovers look on the bookshelf, but when snuggled up in my bed, I prefer a paperback.
