Re: Favorite Part of Writing
I love it when I get that "pling" moment. Usually I will have been stuck for days, not knowing what to write. And then, from out of nowhere, the next chapters just hit me like a bullet!

Re: Its got a nice beat I can dance to....
I break them down, and not just listen. It may be because I have this thing, that when I notice that I am listening to a song (actually hearing it), I believe it's the future calling me. The worlds problems are solved in most songs ;-) Anyway, it's impossible for me to listen to music while I write,...

Re: Wackiest "advice"/comments you've gotten from non-writers
My mother and another relative say about once a week: "Don't expect your book to be published as soon as you've finished it, and expect to send it to lots of agents and that all of them will say no" Well, I was expecting the first agent I sent it to, to throw himself over it and make me lo...

Re: Improving my writing
does norway have community colleges? with english writing classes? Not as advanced as I wish them to be. But I still have to show up at evening - classes, and this is a problem when you have two children, and a husband who is a sailor. =) My writing in here might appear to be ok, but I really have ...

Thank you for your replies. I will check out both of the courses.
Do you know if a course like this would be a plus in the book of an agent?

ninafromnorway: 6/10 I've run into this issue describing pain. There are few words synonymous to pain so the word loses its impact as soon as you use it because we've all heard it used before. Paper cut = pain. Chopped off leg = pain. Playful pinches = pain. Then comes the shooting pain, then shoot...

Re: The Introduction Thread
Thank you very much Brian. That's fantastic to hear, especially since I wrote it late at night and the keyboard letters were waltzing before me.
Have a lovely day.

Re: The Introduction Thread
I only discovered Nathan Bransford and his blog & forum today, so I can see that I have a lot of catching up to do. I'm quite new to writing in general, but I have a bus load of ideas in my head waiting to be spoken. Some days it feels like a champagne bottle is attached to my fingers, and in an...

Improving my writing
Are there any courses out there which would really improve my writing? Of course I would rather move abroad and go to an English speaking school, but unfortunately I'm a little late for that, as I have other priorities in life for the moment being. Therefore an internet course would suit me better, ...

Re: Share your opening sentence!
Leonidas: Your first sentence caught my attention a little. I want to know where your main character is, and where *he comes from. Your second one wasn't just as intriguing though, but I would like to know the next sentence. Here is mine from my first (unpublished) book: I cringed as the wave of pai...
