Re: World Cup!!!
I am NOT a huge sports fan by any stretch of the imagination, but all this World Cup love going on here piqued my interest. I checked out a game over the weekend and it was pretty fun to watch! But what's with all the buzzing? I kept thinking bees were swarming the house. It's the vuvuzelas. It's w...

Re: World Cup!!!
Honestly although I wanted Serbia to win it and thought they would, I'm not that upset about the result. I got the one thing out of that game I wanted: to see Milan Jovanovic play. Definitely glad he's signed on to Liverpool. Not fantastic, but very good, and our supply of good substitute forwards a...

Re: World Cup!!!
So Slovenia have taken charge of Group C. Depending upon how Friday's matches play out, England or the US could be out of it. The matches are definitely going to be rough. Slovenia & Algeria were tearing each other apart. Miracle there weren't more red cards. Serbia & Ghana playing some grea...

Re: What are you reading now?
Started reading The Dying Days by Lance Parkin this morning because, well, I can. Not overly fond of Parkin. Good writing style, I know a lot of people love him, but I've just always found his books to be a bit lacking something. Still, I'm giving it a go.

Re: "Boy books"
Also, books that have a male protagonist. Boys prefer to read books where the MC is male. Some speculate that if Harry Potter had been Harriet Potter, the books would not have sold as well. :) I have to object to this theory boys will only read books with a male lead. I agree guys do not want to re...

Re: World Cup!!!
Some of it, though, looked less like form and more like playing down, which a lot of teams were doing (France took it a bit to the extreme). Understandable really. Exhausting yourself in the beginning is a bad way to go, but couple that with the shaky form and suddenly you've got a problem. Still, I...

Re: World Cup!!!
What's the old saying? Better to be lucky than good... :) I think you mean to say that it's lucky that Tim Howard was born in the USA. Howard doesn't really matter that much. Don't get me wrong, the man is definitely good, but England were a bit off form. Much better form that other recent matches,...

Re: Mad Ideas for promoting your novel
If I could do anything at all, I would have a rigid dirigible constructed and have it painted to detail scenes from and of course the title of said book. I would then proceed to fly around the world in eighty days and complete my journey by docking at the Empire State Building. The sheer number of p...

Re: Open or closed endings?
Depends on the story being told. The original Life On Mars was going to end on a very opening ending, but test audiences disapproved and they changed it, and while the new ending still works, I think the original, open ending is stronger. And yes I realize that's a television example and not a novel...

Re: What do you "do"?
I did various sorts of construction (from literal construction to simple road work) from the time I was 13 until I was 16, working for my uncle, since he and his brothers own just about every construction company in our area. Worked in a grocery store for a month after that. Now I do...stuff (read: ...

Re: Narrative or Dialogue based story?
I am very much a dialogue man. This WIP less so, but my characters do a lot of talking, and I like to use dialogue to reveal plot details instead of block text, whenever plausible (not very often). That said, I'd say my voice is fairly consistent throughout, insofar as the characters each have their...
