Re: What works in Non-fiction/memoir?

I've read Into the Wild and Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. Right now I'm in the middle of Under the Banner of Heaven, also by Krakauer. I think what works for me in these books is the subject matter. He has a way of telling the facts, but in a way so it isn't text book. It also has so much to do wit...

Re: Query: Never Remember *Revised*

Alright, this one I focus a bit more on Devi. Devi is a young woman without a clue as to who she is. She lives without a job and without her family in her life, not because she doesn’t want them, but because she has no memory to retain any information about them. Sometime in her life all her memorie...

Re: What pays your rent?

Right now I'm just a student completing a major in Literature and a minor in Criminal Justice. In May I graduate and I have a seasonal job at Acadia Shop in Bar Harbor, ME. I'm seriously considering staying in Maine when that's done, but I don't know what I want to do. I think I could be very happy ...

Re: Query: Never Remember *Revised*

While trying to find her memories, Devi must come to terms with the fact that she may always be nothing more than a stranger to herself. She lives in the isolation of the woods with the occasional company of Bren, but he isn’t there for nothing. He is helping her find her memories and in return when...

Re: Query: Never Remember *Revised*

Thanks, Wilderness! You've given me a lot to think about. It's always been my problem that when describing something I say too much, so to prevent that I say too little. Now I just tell people to read the back of the book/movie or look it up online. Too bad I can't do that here. Anyways, the thing w...

Re: Your Best Advice to a New Writer

Advice inspired by my Creative Writing class is don't take the advice to seriously. It's recommended to use it, but just remember you can take it or leave it as you see fit. Too many students in my class get really worked up over the book recommending they keep writing journals, don't use dialogue t...

Re: Most Anticipated 2012 Releases

The Man who Rained by Ali Shaw. I fell in love with his first book The Girl with Glass Feet. I actually have the second one already and have read it. I was too impatient to wait for it to be published in the U.S. So, that was what I was most looking forward too. My life is complete.

Re: Your Best Advice to a New Writer

A thesaurus is your best friend. Follow as many agent blogs as possible, when in doubt is always a good idea to go to the source. Also, try different genres. You may think you already know your niche, but maybe you find it's easier to write fantasy rather than sci-fi. Or you start off writing parano...

Re: Query: Never Remember

I'm going with a more simple approach. The problem with all the information I think is important is that it needs more info for it to make sense in the query. I'm about half way done with my wip now. Let me know what you think! Devi can’t remember anything about her life. Her memories were stolen by...

Re: Query: Never Remember

Thanks for the input, Wallflower. I will say that since posting this query each paragraph has already been redone. Also, in this case "shadows" are meant to be taken literally. The shadows are shadows and it's the same thing with the house of mirrors. I'll get to work in incorporating your...
