Re: Open or closed endings?
I agree with Erica... if its thriller, suspense, crime etc - i prefer it to be closed. But if its romance - then an open ending is nicer, when you know the characters in and out - and you can imagine up an ending that keeps you happy :)

Re: Okay, be honest…how crappy is your first draft?
Personally, i don't think my first draft is tooo bad. But yeah - lots of repeating words, typos, grammatical errors and contrasting situations! Someone had to point out to me that a doctor's name i had used - was the same in england and even in Ireland, even though it wasn't supposed to be the same ...

Re: Nathan's query "template"
Hmmm... my try. Eve is a dreamy teenager living in Reading, England. But when she falls in love with Christopher, a man 15 years older than herself, she must go through a series of tasks to convince the families of their love and has to survive a revenge plot of an old friend-turned-enemy, Derek. OR...

Re: A Question on Mixed Tenses
A similar question... Is the below passage ok? I'm jumping tenses :( I went upstairs slowly, looking at the beautiful pictures on the wall. I was alone. The others had rushed off to select their rooms, leaving me behind to fend for myself. I didn’t mind, I enjoyed the beauty in silence. If i change ...

Re: Mad Ideas for promoting your novel
lmao!!! Hmm.... since my book is a romance drama... maybe i could get a few guy-friends and set up dates with whoever buys my novel!! :P And they could travel together to the places my MC is... and do the things they do! Ok, i got carried away. They're not gonna want to read my book with a hunk arou...

Re: The first chapter of a novel
Awesome feedback... all of u!!! Thanks so much!
My story starts exactly where it needs to - so that's a good sign. Just need to polish it up a bit and it should be okay.

Re: The rules of "stronger" writing... lol?
I totally agree that when it comes to conversations - there are no rules. You should be able to get away with anything, because that's just the way the character talks! Since i'm writing in the first person, i hope i can get away with a lot of things, because even when not in conversation - i write ...

Re: The first chapter of a novel
Hmm... basically my first chapter establishes my MC, second chapter - the location, and third chapter my romantic counter part. And my chapters aren't too big. So pace wise its pretty fast. But there's nothing explosive in the beginning, and that's what worried me.

I've read the Mallory Towers and Five Find Outers series over a million times. Though not so much now... when i was younger. They were my absolute favourite.

The first chapter of a novel
A lot of books start off with an action sequence... or a dream sequence. That sort of grabs your attention from the beginning, and then the pace slows down to accomodate character building scenerios. My book starts of fairly simple. Nothing exciting about it... its just a start of a journey. But it ...
