INTERMISSION BEFORE THE LAST ACT BEGINS Arc, loyal reader at the Quonset Hut, has this to say about the story of THE GOOD-BYE MAN. Once in a while an event happens in the course of human history that is worthy of note. Some may involve feats of strength and danger, others endurance against the odds,...

Craig, you are going to leave us hanging, without telling us the name of the book that impressed you so?

And yet I see some talented writers among the 271(!) finalists. As for the unlucky 2000 who didn't make the cut, they can still sign up for a how-to-get published-course for a one time special price of only 79.95.
I wonder when they get to learn the how-to-write part.

"Tense - Jumping tenses is obviously a big no-no. But again, its difficult to spot these mistakes, especially while writing in first person. I've already corrected a zillion of these" [/color] How interesting that you pick this point out, Deepsesh. I am studying tense jumping with a first...

I represent the Tragedy of the Commons answer. I would like the free with ads ebook, please. And then I would also like the work-around hack that suppresses the ads, like the Firefox Adblock add-on does.

Jeff,
I am switching from MS word to Open Office, which is the open source community's version of MS word. It also allows you to write a document and save it in .pdf format. I don't know about other starting points, but it is easy to do with .rtf files.

Re: My Weird Experiment
Lovely trailer! I want one! I find that as a book gets closer to done-ness there are lots of these side jobs to be tended to. Blurbs, synopses, queries, proposals, cover letters, character lists, reference material. I'm sticking bits and pieces of them everywhere as I create them in our public discu...

Re: Blog Traffic...Creating a Traffic Jam
I appreciate the tips, y'all. I've just started two blogs, one to provide me with a place to ruminate on some of the mysteries I've encountered while researching the Townsend Brown story and one to post book chapters as we finish the next draft. This last is my way of flogging myself to the finish l...

Re: Beautiful Language in TV Shows
Thanks for the recommendations, y'all. We have a TV-free household but we are always on the lookout for any good series on DVD. I thoroughly enjoyed 6 Feet Under , but was mad about Deadwood . The David Milch authored episodes stood out from the others because of the almost Shakespearean cadence of ...

Sorry, Ink. I didn't watch the game, but I heard it should have gone the other way.
Knight, I now have to flip leagues and cheer for the Saints. Otherwise my Gulf Coast relatives will disown me. So....here's to a memorable Superbowl, however it goes.
