Re: Multimedia or Straight Text?
Text. Unless it's memoir or non-fiction, in which case pictures/diagrams are fine, as long as they are static (no moving pictures, please). Basically, what you already get in a print book. No multimedia.

Re: 10 reasons e-books might not eat the world
I'd give up my favorite author, no question. There will always be good books out there, but how I red them is a part of my lifestyle, and I'm way too attached to that.

Re: Do any of you other unpublished authors have websites?
Ishta- not to be an alarmist, but be cautious around seemingly innocuous "stalkers". I used to blog at the NHL's website, gained a decent readership, which translated to "stalkers". Unfortunately, I had to move my hockey blog when one disturbed reader from Toronto vowed to come ...

Re: 10 reasons e-books might not eat the world
I think this discussion is boiling down to this: There are two kinds of people in the world. There are those who like having stuff around, who like the sight of books on the shelves and toys in the corner, who kept their favorite books from childhood to give to their children, whose attics are burst...

Re: Do any of you other unpublished authors have websites?
John - oh, dear. Pen name. Definitely. I have my blog, and have thought about Twitter. I'm not sure what the point of Twitter without a cell phone would be, though, since I don't walk around with my laptop strapped to my side and I don't really relish the thought of opening it in the evening/morning...

Re: Do you have a new blog post?
Thanks, Robin! Blue and green are my favorite colors. I think because I have kind of a big personality and I tend to get an idea and run with it, but I sometimes lose focus as a result. I need something to cool/calm me down. I have a picture of bluish-grey rocks as the background on my computer, and...

Re: Do you have a new blog post?
I re-did the look and layout of my blog. It feels more "me". And I'm still having a contest to win a query critique by me. :-)

Re: 6 Days Until MOCKINGJAY!!!
I was just in my local today, and couldn't help scanning the shelves, just in case they pulled a fast one like they did with LINGER (which got released early at the last minute). 6 more days! 6 more days! In the meantime, SHIVER and LINGER (by Maggie Stiefvater) are pretty darn good, if you ask me. ...

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND WRITE-OFF
Oooh, I've been needing something like this!
My goal is to have my early MG chapter book finished, complete with first-round revisions, and ready for my crit group to take a stab at it.
:-) This write-off is a great idea!

Re: Series Novels: Why should the first one have to stand alone?
I think it's important to look at this from the publisher's perspective, too. If they're not sure how well your first book will sell, they won't want to give you a contract for a series. And if they publish your book and it doesn't sell well, AND it doesn't stand alone (as in, it leaves readers wond...

Re: Can we start calling it something other than a query?
The Schmooze - LOL! Too funny. And SO TRUE! Incidentally, I'm hosting a contest on my blog to win a query critique by yours truly. Queries are not so hard for me; I've always gotten really good feedback on them from agents. Then they tell me that my topic is too overdone for them. Talk about taking ...
